So I guess you could say i think city names aere a good bet.

I have to admit, pretty much the whole "food & beverage" section of the portfolio was a result of me going to one of my favorite cocktail recipe sites while I was researching names. There's a cool little site feature there called "In My Bar" that will generate possible drinks based upon what you have in the house at the time. I think my original intent was to mix myself up a brandy-stinger to sip on while searching keywords, but next thing I know I'm registering another batch.

The moral???

DON'T DRINK AND REGISTER!!!

it makes me wonder about geolocation

a lot of names will really take off: pizza, car rental, movietickets etc etc if there is some way to integrate geolocation with the web page call

does anyone know if the technology exists to have a web page automatically enter a mobiles gps location and then serve the home page based on it ?

so how about some discussion about the usage of a city name in .mobi vs an application such as gambling and the potential revenue generation that a city specific site could have and its potential end value to an aggregator of city names, a yellow pages, a city government, etc.

I will be pursuing a listing fee from businesses like restaurants and am working out details for hotel reservations. I'd love it if a user could search for a room and pay for it w/ their cell #. No fumbling for a credit card. I think paypal is doing a mobile quick pay kind of thing that a user needs to pre reg for but I don't know if any hotel sites use it yet. I'm sure several companies are working on it as I type.

Now back to the discussion, I think the city names will be a very good portals for end users. Some examples like londonengland.mobi as someone mentioned eairler. A travel related sites ( like trevelocity) might also be interested apart from yellowpages. I know yellowpages got some zipcodes .com's. Then there are city aggricators who would be interested, like http://www.boulevards.com/ , they have a good portofolio of cityname .com's ( like sanjose.com, sanfrancisco.com..) and they have made some nice portal's. Check out their sites, it might give some idea of potential use and revenue generation.

associated cities these guys own palmsprings.com and a boatload of major cities all around the world like barcelona, los angeles seattle etc

they appear to be using software switiching to display their sites on phones

try palmsprings.com or barcelona.com on your phone or the opera simulator and you will get a page that is formatted for a phone

i'd be very interested to know if they have the mobi version of all their city names

if they are going to use the dot com version they will certainly not be big supporters of mobi

I think Associated cities and boulevards.com are one and the same.

their cities don't correspond

plus, associated has the premium names, i.e sandiego.com vs boulevards which has sandiego-california.com
