Not a good registrar

Here's another shoddy registrar company. I've been with them for 3+ years and they do not provide transfer authorization and many other problems. This registrar also goes under the name of NamesBeyond. Same owner and not located in India but an Indian woman owns it and is based out of Canada and PA.

If you transfer your domains out, they still remain in your account, that's after you beg for your transfer auth code. According to ICANN, authorization codes for transfers should be as easy to get as it would be to change nameservers on domain names. You actually have to email this company and request authorization codes and their response doesn't include them. Your username is also posted in the whois of all your domain names without the ability to change the username.

Today, after a year of all my domains transferred out they are still sending me renewal notices and my domains still show up in my account with them. This registrar is one of ICANN's unmanaged and unregulated Registrars. I've spoke with the staff on a number of occasions and turnover is very high and a lot of part timers that don't know a thing about our industry.

I would not use this Registrar if you want your domains safe. I will do a full report and include all communication between myself and this registrar so you'll have an example. When they say Good Luck, they mean it! Below is an example of how you get a transfer authorization, posted in order with dates.

I'm trying to unlock and transfer my domain names out to my own registrar.

My username is: xxxxx

Please Unlock and make available for transfer all the domains within my
account. The domains are:

(Listed 9 domain names)

Please include the transfer authorization with each of these.

Their response to my request:

We would be much grateful if you could let us know the reasons for the transferring the same. Many of the world's leading brand owners have chosen NamesBeyond.com to manage their brands online. They have taken advantage of our state of the art, technology, lowest price and top-no tech customer service. Our mission is to provide great value and seamless customer service. We wish you to re-consider your decision to transfer the domain name to another registrar and we will be much happy to retain you back as our esteemed client. We will appreciate your immediate response and awaiting to work with you better in the years to come.

My Response to the above:

Quote:

Well, that's the first reason. Because I cannot manage my own domain.
I ask you for information to transfer my domain and you want to know why
instead of providing your customer what I asked for.

The second reason is because you've published my user login on the whois
under the registrant information.

The third reason is that last year there were problems when renewing.

The fourth reason is that I have my own directi reseller program.

The fifth reason is because I want to transfer.

The sixth reason is that I sold a domain out of my account and all of my
whois changed and was like that for several months til I noticed.

Now, I've sent in a support ticket asking you to provide me with some
information. Instead of doing this, you want to know why. I'm a
technology blogger specializing in the area of Domain Registrars. When
I write, people listen. When you have a customer that asks for
information so he or she can transfer, first you provide the information
you are required under the ICANN agreement, then you can ask questions.

Now, I will repeat myself. Here is what I want and I want it quickly
before I get upset.

1. Unlock all of my domain names.
2. Provide EPP Codes for all my domain names.

Both of the above I should be able to do without asking. I don't want
questions, I want what I ask for first.

I would highly advise you provide me with the information requested.

After this last email, they sent my auth codes and unlocked domains. This is something that ICANN Policy says I should be able to lock, unlock and transfer my domain names without the assistance of NamesBeyond or Good Luck Domains.

Since the transfer of all my domains, I still receive renewal notices and expiration notices and the domains still show in my NamesBeyond account. Go figure.
