What are the criterion to call a domain a Premium domain?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It depends on a context :) Some of the domains you can proclaim as premium by yourself. You simply set them as premium on lets say Afternic. But the general rules are to long to explain them in one post. And some domains may be crap for somebody and for the other pure gold. So they are really broad standards concerning this issue. There is a category of universal premium domains, perhaps you start with that.

This is what I look for in a domain:
1. Age
2. dictionary word / keyword / NN / NNN / LL / LLL
3. search stats (Use Google Keywords Tool to find the stats)
4. length

examples: apple.com
alarm.com
insurance.com
99.com
PGO.com

Domains could be in cctld as well: like .ca, .co.uk, .de, .co

Hi

Basically....

Premium Domains are domain names that Don't need the word "Premium" in the title of the thread.

If you have to put the word "Premium" in your advertisement, then it means you have no confidence that your domain will draw attention without it.

when you see "LLLL.com with two premium letters", what does that mean?

there are 4 letters in the name, but you're being sold on 2....whatcha gonna do with the other 2 letters?

the whole domain is what you're buying.

:)

imo...

But the premium name could be premium only for the owner of the TM imo. Apple.com was not a good example. If youd own apple.com you could have just premium expenses.

Apple.com is a 1 word dictionary term and name of the fruit. It's still premium to anyone.

You would loose it since its a trademark. There are some small chances to win it against apple, but I strongly believe they can afford better lawyers than a would be owner concerning that issue.

We are not talking about trademarks. We're talking about premium domains. It all comes down to what you use the domain for. As long as you don't infringe on the TM, you're good.
Example:
Take a look at apple.co.uk (used to owned by a designer) and apple recently acquired it > http://www.screenshots.com/apple.co.uk/

In my opinion premium domain is when you go to the bulk search, which is searching for all domains cctlds, tlds, sponsored tlds, and all domains with this keyword are unavailable instead of this very high priced or special location requirements - This the premium domain.

It is very interesting to see the responses to this most basic of questions about domain investment.

The confusion over the correct answer to this question is exactly why 95% of all registered domains will only be loss leaders.

Here's something I wrote a while back that should help you answer this for yourself: http://www.mwzd.com/domain-names/what-makes-a-domain-name-valuable/

Any domain that gets regular offers and/or receives auction bids that meet one's reserve prices.

And I wish I had more of those.

We all think that our domains are of premium quality, but the important thing is for others to think that.

Whether you have a premium domain or not is determined by the level of interest that your domain generates both in terms of traffic and offers that you might receive.

You can see an example of a premium domain here :)

In this industry premium means something between garbage and so-so.

If i change last one or two character in domain then it will be excepted or not. For example aquariusmedia.com
is register. If i will use aquariusmediaa.com then it will be registered or not.
