I like them personally!

Launched a mini-site for a long tail (WordWordWordWord.com) product niche 5 weeks ago that has quickly moved up the rankings with no backlinks to where it is now on page 1 of Google & Yahoo/Bing. I've made $40 so far and the sales trend seems to be increasing so I'm pretty happy. Am going to try this with some other long tails and see what happens.

I am glad to see that a senior member of NP has at least tried it and had positive results. I have two minisites in particular that I have had great success with. One is (wordwordwordword.com) that has crept to page #1, position 8 on google after sitting at #11. It and another are currently page #2 & 3 on Yahoo and Bing respectively for additional keywords. Some small rev starting which is what made me look...

I am sure Google is simply teasing me right now and will promptly pull the plug when they realize I am getting excited. I have been a fan of long tail keyword rich domains for a while now and was simply wondering what the thoughts of everyone else were. Appreciate the response TestCase!

Don't give my comments or my "senior" status much weight (DAMN, I suddenly feel old!), I'm still learning everyday what works and doesn't work... =)

Hopefully I can create a few hundred more longtail sites with each making a buck a day. Should this all work out maybe I'll be able to retire (at least from my "day job") with a steady stream of income before I actually become a senior citizen.

Good luck to you Spearseven!

I also like longtail domain names and have always focused more on them rather than brandable domains and whatnot. I just think it's easier to rank for them in the search engines (even though there is lower traffic). I'm obsessed with SEO and long tail keywords in the domain are great for getting ranked quicker :)

Interesting thread, I'd like to see what other people think as well.

I suppose such web sites "makes" such domain names. I would not say those domain names worth something without web site.

All,

I truly enjoy the comments and opinions from everyone. Long-tail domain names have been an interest of mine for a while now. I found this recent article that might surprise those that are unaware that there have been some decent...I mean very decent long tail domain name sales. If you get a chance, read the part of the article that says that a WP blog did not go up UNTIL after the sale.

Long-tail Domain Name sells for $18,000 at GreatDomains | Fusible.com
