Will .asia be bigger than .(ext)? What is your prediction?

IMO, .ASIA will not be bigger than .TV.

I personally like .tv but I think the crazy renewal costs are holding back the extension.

It is hard to say currently. I think .tv is quite good extension but it is usually good for tv channel. For for some keywords, .tv is not good.

For example,

I got dementia.tv , I would prefer to own dementia.asia than dementia.tv as dementia is nothing to do (generally speaking) with tv channel or tv.

I will be willing to pay more to have dementia.asia (knowing the population) than dementia.tv.

Therefore, for keywords which are not related to tv or tv channel, I think .asia will do better, IMO anyway.

Interesting observatoin. I favor the .tv because it is short and sweet and perfect for the web, but it does make sense that some domains will be more valuable in the .asia extension for the reasons you stated.

I expect .asia to lag far behind .tv --- unless .tv unexpectedly self-destructs.

Not a chance imo.

When .tv starts getting its own way, many people say .tv is crap, no potential and now more and more people realize that it got good future. It might happens with .asia.

what asia should compare with is .eu, but not .TV, IMMO

.Asia...just like .Eu..who needs it. Asia is such a big continent with so many diverse peoples and countries that have few things in common with each other in most cases and already have their own country tld's. Asia like .Eu is just another tld too many to line the pockets of the registry. It will go nowhere. Another white elephant.

Every name is pretty much going for fair value, so with few exceptions the names will be worth what you paid for them, or more likely less than what you paid for them, including those now being registered thru landrush.

Unfortunately this new system is now being adopted for .me too ....

And is so effective at securing full value for every name for the registry (and whoever is runnnig the prerelease auctions) I would not be suprised to see future extensions also adopt the format.

The .asia bubble is likely already popping....look out below for prices.

btw I still have not heard on my four names I registered four months ago, no auction notice, nothing in whois, nothing.

Geo names

I think that any geo specific .asia names or travel .asia names could go huge if they get promoted. It depends on what the big hitters do with any names that got assigned. (visit.asia - hongkong.asia etc.). that would drag along other travel domains.

MY OPINION,
BUT VERY PASSIONATE OPINION!

NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!
.asia will do great, it will bump most country code's.
(ONLY because of THEIR population)
But in no way will it come close to .tv
.tv is a force to be reckoned with.

Let's just forget that IT is a country code!
No one cares about that.
We all have a tv in our house, or 2, 3, 4, or 5 etc.
So if most are thinking about .tv as tv's then that will never compete with asia.
Because I seriously think about asia very seldomly.
So we all know .tv is being thought about,
as the boob-tubes we all have in our houses.
In that respect, .asia doesn't stand a chance.

Now, even if you aren't limiting your thoughts to .tv
as that tiny little country, or that box in your living room.
.tv is being pushed as video for the computer!
So ANYTHING you want to have on your site...
is best said as uploaded video's.
Hence, computer, video streaming, "tv"!
I don't think there's a chance .asia will come close!

I think they will both have their uses. Asia will be bigger for certain terms, tv will be bigger for others. For example, which is the better domain, travelinsurance.asia or travelinsurance.tv?

Tons of people now watch tv shows and other videos online now, just look at youtube. .TV has a good future as long as verisign and enom can cut the prices on premium names and lower the registration fee. On the other hand .asia is a huge flop waiting to happen imo.

.tv is better. Eventually .asia might get some where in a couple of years.

youtube is .com , in fact all the big websites where you can view movies/shows/animes are all on .coms

.tv will need development...anime.tv sounds logical , actionmovies.tv, romanticshows.tv...sounds good but its going no where

same with .asia...will have to see how many people actually develop websites on .asia

What about T-V.asia ? A good mix of the 2? That one is on upcoming auction.

g-
