Hi,

I saw a very interesting thread from about a year back -
http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/281927-put-these-domain-extensions-order-value.html

And decided to replicate it for this year,
just to see the comparison,
if not really, just from a domainers perspective.

Here are the contenders -

.com
.net
.org
.info
.biz
.mobi
.pro
.add other gTLDs here.

.tv
.us
.in
.ws
.co.uk
.de
.cn
.cc
.add other ccTLDs here.

Here is my take on the current situation -

.com
.net
.info
.mobi
.org
.biz
.pro

&

.tv
.co.uk
.de
.us
.in
.cn
.cc
.ws

:)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
From more of a beginners perspective, I'd say:

.com
.net
.org
.info
.mobi
.biz
.pro

.co.uk
.in
.us
.tv
.de
.cn
.cc
.ws

.com
.net
.org
.mobi
.info
.biz
.pro

&

.co.uk
.tv
.in
.us
.de
.cn
.cc
.ws

IMHO

Regarding cctld, curious how some of you put .in above .us

Interesting and informative thread.. but I have a question
(1) as I am not a resident of some of these countries and I believe I can't register some ccTLDs...shouldn't the list be limited to ccTlds that anyone can register?

Well, I hate to burst a bubble, but if you want to know value, you have to watch what the endusers are doing. A domains final value is determined by what people are looking for and finding on the internet.

Taking COM, NET, and ORG out of the equation, since we all agree they reside in the top three, you can see by this chart that TV is actually steadily increasing well above the others you all mentioned.

Mobi had a pop in 2006, but sorry if you look at the trends, it appears that mobi is slightly falling over the long term. Info popped up in 2004, fell and at the end of 2006 started slowly rising over 2007. Biz just floats steady, while PRO is a non starter right now. (I do think that will change the next few years.)

Sorry guys, TV is the one on the rise, as much as you all don't want to admit it.

http://www.google.com/trends?q=.tv,+.biz,+.mobi,+.info,+.pro&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

Feel free to sort anyway you want, it clearly shows out of all of them, TV is the one on the rise.

Irritating, isn't it?

I see many more mobi sales on DNJournal and other places than .info or .biz or .pro and the sales prices are much higher too. The demand for .mobi is obviously higher than those three right now so I dont know how people put those extensions higher. The value comes from a market of demand from people wanting to buy them whether it is endusers or domainers. Would you rather have some LLL.pro or some LLL.mobi? Would you rather have ringtones.biz or ringtones.mobi? NNN.info or NNN.mobi?

Well, it wasn't really meant to be an anti or pro debate.

Just and ordering based on your opinion.

I would then input everyones data into a db and give results based on this opinion.

I'm not anti .tv or .mobi nor am I pro .pro or .in, though my investments in my portfolio are based on my valuations and the keywords available.

Let me try and clarify - assume the 'same keyword' in all TLDs, now which would you value and where...

For those who use domainscore, here's their ranking of TLDs - (I've taken the keyword 'games' as that is the most valuable according to DS / PremiumDomain(s) -
1,000 Games com 93/100 93/100 1,260,000,000 9,212,114
913 Games org 93/100 93/100 1,260,000,000 9,212,114

According to most expensive sales should be something like that:

.com
.net
.mobi
.eu
.org
.info
.pro
.biz

etc

.tv
.de
.co.uk
.es
.in
.us
.fr

etc

Took away from list some small ccTld-s with few extraordinary expensive sales.

There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago for 2010 valuation, so my thoughts are similar with a few flips in ordering. I will focus on domains that are generally open to registration worldwide (as opposed to restricted cctld's). Here is my guess:

1.) .com
2.) .net
3.) .org (flip with info for many keywords)
4.) .info
5.) .tv
6.) .mobi
7.) .biz
8.) .pro
9.) .in
10.) .cn
11.) .cc
12.) .ws

I suppose I also might flip .mobi with .tv for current values, but I think that order will switch soon, hence my ordering.

This is my opinion as end-user, not domainer:

.com
.net
.info
.biz
.org (.org is better for acronyms. in all other situations .info is better, because all my projects are commercial .biz and .info always suit them better than .org)
.tv
.mobi (I don't plane to use .mobi at all)
