Before you decide on a price you could just check out if they are possibly interested.

I doubt because they already own one premium domain: broad.com. If their SEO is bad, they can do something about it but the domain has little to do with it. It's not like you a bringing them a superior domain name.

I have a message after sending email to end user.

"Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
[email protected]
Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.7.1 Message rejected as spam by Content Filtering. (state 18)."

Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?

Do you have any success stories when selling your domains to end users via gmail or yahoo? Please share them.
What tools you use?

I use excel to manage my portfolio. On one of the pages, I have a potential client list for each domain. It looks like this:

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/2654/clientsearch.gif

I email potential buyers and give them a fixed price and a sedo link. If the domain doesn't sell after 2 months I reduce the price and email them again. I record the dates of my emails. Also I have a main portfolio page that lists all my domains in one column, expiry date, creation date, etc. There is also a column for last contact made to potential buyers.

This way I can sort my domains according the date I last contacted potential buyers. I also use colour codes for different things. For instance red means, "no potential buyers found, leave to drop". Blue means, "keep at this price, don't reduce any further" etc.

Excel is good with these kind things because you get a lot of flexibility that you can't get with a portfolio management script or program. I have a custom developed portfolio management site that I don't use because I'm happier with excel. Of course I have another page on my excel file for finances which is extremely useful too. So these are some tips I wanted to share with other domainers.

You mentioned on the previous page that, on average, it only takes you 30 minute to compile these lists. I find it takes me much longer, but I also like to write down a lot of information about each prospect - name, company, position, how many other domains they own, and multiple emails when I'm able to find more than one.

My thinking is that it enables me to keep them straight in my head and be more informed in/when I have to touch base with them again.

It would be a lot more straightforward if I just saved their emails, though.

I've found I'm able to generate about 65 contacts in an hour, with 5-6 columns of info per entry. But it's still very time consuming, because then I have to go email them individual (which is partially automated, but still not bulk, to comply with anti-spam laws).

I also keep track of who I've contacted, because I don't want to write to the same person twice.

Good point about the Sedo link. I'll try that.

I don't get offers. I sell with fixed price. I just open my gmail from time to time and I see an email from sedo that says "your domain is sold". I say, thank you very much. Within the first month %10 of my new purchases are sold. I keep dropping the price over time. Buyers might not respond to your first email but in your second or third email, when you drop the price low enough they go and buy the domain.

Of course I don't make sales if I don't work extremely hard. This usually means sleepless nights and searching expire lists for long hours every day. Those sales don't happen on their own if you don't do a lot of research. It is 5:14 a.m here in the UK.

wow thats great erdinc. Nice sales figures. I am just curious with 190 domains how much of a profit you are making...

Also, Doesn't Sedo take a Commission. Would'nt you just do a private sale if it is going to be a fixed price anyway? Just wondering...thanks

I need to reinvest some of the money to new domains. About half of the domains I buy never sell. I spend %50 of sales income to new domains. I also need to spend money for renewals. I wait until the renewal is due but I put that money aside. I have calculated that I need to save %9 of sales income for renewals. I have also some other costs because of my website. I don't make too much profit. I would need 2000 domains to make a living.

You can't ask somebody you don't know to send you money without any guarantee they will get something in return. If they pay you directly you might just run with the money. Buyers are not stupid. Even if they trust that you won't run, still some people don't want to share their details with strangers.

Another thing is with sedo they have more payment options. Also with sedo you get multi language sales pages. If the buyer is Spanish I send them an email in Spanish with a link to a spanish sedo page. Also sedo has phone number which I like to put in my emails.

Similarly godaddy has a 24 hour phone line and I put their phone number into my emails when I link to a godaddy sales page. many people in the USA will have heard about Godaddy. If the domain is at godaddy and the buyers are from the USA, then list the domain at Godaddy, forward it to its listing page (so that when you open the domain you land on the godaddy sales page) and finally, email the buyers with a link to godaddy, with a price and (the price will be also shown on the page) and the godaddy phone number.

Godaddy takes %5 commission. Sedo takes %10.

Hello everyone! I am having some trouble selling my domains. I know this might be off topic but im desperate. Ive been doing this for about a year now and I have no profit. One of my domains is SolarHalogen()com and it hasnt been touched. I think its very good! Its singular and original. I think a lot of my failure is due to lack of exposure. If a domain name isnt exposed, then people wont know about it.

But how do people who dont contact potential end users sell domains like cake?!? Its hard to understand unless they are lying...which I know they arent!

I checked SolarHalogen()com and it is worthless. Leave it to expire.

@sobeman

You may want to reconsider the way you look at domains. Who would be the purchaser of solarhalogen?

You are on the right track by asking why your names aren't selling. Now you might wany to ask yourself how to find a name that will sell for more than you pay for it. You have to be able to see the idea behind the name and identify potential buyers. If you can't do that, you likely will have a hard time selling the name.

Also, you will benefit from seeing what is selling currently. Take a look at the last few months' of posts on the reported sales thread here at NP.

The last thing I will suggest is if you are hand regging domains, before you spend a lot of money, take a small sampling of what you have regged, and try to sell them in the forums here for more than reg fee. If you can do that consistently, it's a fair sign your names aren't complete junk. Realize, though, that this will be a test and not the end-game. You may want to limit your amount of hand regs anyway, as they are pretty hard to sell in general.

Thank you! I actually just snagged a really really good domain name! Im hoping this is good! I got a .com and it is 5 letters long. Theres a japanese company that has the exact .net. They just started up in 2009 and this domain name that i got just expired but has been registered since 2003! So obviously they couldnt get it because it was taken.

How should I approach this?

Is it advisable to give a first direct call who could be a very potential sale?

After not having ANY sales in january today I decided to try something new.
I picked 3 random domains from my portfolio, changed my sales pitch and sent 20 emails/domain. I put in the sales letter the asking price of $195 to $245.
After 10 min of sending emails, this Italian firm calls me(i always put my cell in the signature) saying they want the domain ($195). Couple hours latter the other domains sell for $250 and a counteroffer of $150.
TOTAL SALES $595 in one day, from HAND REG domains!!
What have I learned today???
I would rather sell cheap then NOT at all. I was wayyyyyyy overpricing my domains names.
Maybe this post can help somebody else too...something to think about!

What did you ask for the domains before you decided to sell cheap?

Others do the calls as a follow up measure instead of a first direct call. You can always do e-mails initially then call your prospects to see if they received the e-mail, and do your sales talk from there as well.

Congrats man. I learned this too at some point. And yeah, we just need to assess the right price because there are times when we perceive such a high value at our investments which then makes it hard to sell.

Flipping over the sales and gaining good ROI is definitely better than having them stay there :)

Im confused on how you guys send out emails??? Can someone explain this to me?? Like how do you determine which domains you have will send out emails??

Do you just randomly find businesses that can use your domain name?

I was asking anywhere from $500-$800, and it was working so well this year.
Last year was a good year for me....

Well I have a Domain Name that is exactly the company's name but the company uses COMPANYINC.com

The company is based in the US and has a Revenue of $722 Million.

What could be the price range I should ask for?

I know it's a long thread and all, but probably half of the 1900+ posts in this thread are this question being asked and answered. Hard to keep posting the same stuff over and over again. Like right here just one page back from your post.

I think you should file a UDRP proceeding against them for squatting on CompanyInc.com like that when you, as the owner of Company.com, are clearly the rightful holder of a mark.

Im just finding it hard to make a sale. Ive been doing this for a year now and I havent got a sale. Not trying to sound conceded, but half my domains I personally think are better than half the ones that sell. I have the right knowledge, and I park them at sedo and they dont sell.

Theres gotta be something im missing or the claimed sales arent true. Like for instance gruebengrail()com says sold for $250?!? Thats not even english or a word. I just registered labdog.net about a week ago and it hasnt even budged. I think labdog.net is very valuable and has many searches. Just unlucky i guess
