For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

I agree somewhat with Acroplex. When I bought tel the about.me is the kind of potential I saw in the tel and I still see the potential.

And I do get frustrated by some of the limitations, but its a love/hate affair because I would not have made some of the sites I have without those tel.


But I think I like them even more today :D

I did some research about what I got visitors from, and copied the formula, applied it to all my .tel folders in the directory.

That was two days ago. Today the traffic was doubled to trippled.
Still it might be because of christmas closing in.

But it would have been impossible to make with an about.me page.

However since about.me is not your own domain name. Which is a big difference. It does also not have the potential to be used as phone numbers which is another big difference.

Its still a subdomain and in that sense its still like another facebook and as such its not as optimal or pro to put on a businesscard for web presence as a own domain name.

Since its not your own domain name there are other drawbacks, it will not rank as good in searches, cant be used in many of the ways you can use a tel such as for a directory, internal company directory etc etc.

Exactly. About.me/username is not your domain, in fact, it's free. You can still customize it *better* than any .tel. It serves the same function, because - remember - .tel domains can't be parked or seriously monetized and can't be developed. They are supposed virtual contact cards over a web enabled phone.

My first name is "ishar" (ishar.tel), I just searched today it's still in the 1st page 5th position.

very positive development for directory style .tels.

i have a question. i own name.com and redirect it to name.tel for my main contact page. this way i can use the functionality of the .tel but i can tell everyone name.com so they wont ever be confused seeing a strange extension. the problem is if i go to name.tel from my iphone everything looks fine but if i go to name.com from my iphone it doesnt redirect to the .tel, it just sits there frozen as a blank white screen. anyone know how to fix this? if i visit name.com or name.tel from a computer everything is fine, its only when i am on a mobile device that it doesnt work.

I have bought a .tel a couple of years ago as homepage for a project that now I develop no more, so I prefer to sell it to someone who could use it better.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in .tel at the moment.

That's because it's time to say good night to .tel

March is the renewal period for thousands of .tel domains. April stats are bound to show a slaughter.tel

Last year .tel drop more than 90,000,but stats 330,000 now.Compare 260,000 before March.
This year maybe drop 50,000,but I think stats more than 500,000.

So ,don't worry about the numbers.

.tel is getting bigger. Since they have started to cooperate with some YP services.

In 02-07-2011 There were 43.349 Chinese .tel registrations.
A few days earlier there have been days with 4-12.000 regs from china.

Maybe hosterstats have the same "wrong number" that dottel had, before fixing it a week ago.
It was something with missing some of the idn count, or the increase will show in next update.

Hi, as far as i can see, night does not fit well .tel extension as it does notdescribe a service.
If your name is Mr Night, keep it.

You should prefer name like travelagency.tel , hotel.tel, restaurant.tel that better fit the .tel extension.

webnames.ca is a local one for you, they have scene going in vancouver,
Also name.com, directi resellers, eurodns, domainmonster.com, enom, encirca, gandi.net.

Its recommended to back up your .tel prior to transfer.

Sure, but since you can create a subdomain on it, you could get clubs.night.tel

Which can appear on a search for night clubs.

So it can be useful.
