Good points, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Could either be someone wanting to profit from traffic or someone from unicef.

I have heard of people posing as agents and collecting money in those tins, going door to door etc. (major fraud) so that is probably why they posted that text.

Like others have said, I wouldn't touch unisef, you'll probably get the domain taken off you, not to mention get branded a cybersquatter, which could well count against you if you're challenged on other domains.

A couple of things:

First:
Favorite.com at $36k
Reset.com at $12k

Second:
unicef.com is probably better not auctioned off, BUT I think this continues to show the lack of transparency on the part of the "dropcatchers".

I am very disappointed with the information given to those in the auction regarding the unicef situation (And they refuse to explain what happened to it...), as well as recent trends of the big names buying names for apparently more than they then offer them for sale...

As to your second point, I have no idea why a buyer at SnapNames would do that with a name they'd acquired. If you are implying that certain buyers do not actually pay the amount that they bid then you are incorrect. No discounts are given to any customer, whether that person buys one name or a thousand per month. This has been true since we switched over to the auction format in 2004; running auctions any other way would be both wildly unethical and very illegal.

Just as an aside, a few altruistic domainers had actually banded together and reached a large sum of money (Will not post here in case unicef.com ends back up on the block) that, in a philanthropic gesture, would be used to bid on and buy unicef.com, and then donate it to unicef.org (A great organization, despite their ties to the UN

). It made me incredibly proud of some members of our forum that they had even thought to help in such a way

Well, Snap can relist the name as a charity auction, then give the name to UNICEF with the proceeds.
