i too got one. But i dint open the message. In the subject i think it was for 5.99 $. Costly for a .name

That was from a few days ago, and probably is their regular price now.

$2.99 is their special for the next few hours. I just regged these nine domains that didn't make it to my shopping cart the last time I searched for .names:

What's up with DNS management?

This TOS statement from DomainSite.com is troubling to me:

DNS Management Tools: use our name servers and connect your domain to your various web and email resources. (not included with $6.99 basic registration).

Looks to me like clients will have to pay an extra fee to make any DNS changes. Can anyone here clarify whether this is the case or not?

I never paid Domainsite extra for DNS services. Instead, I use my own nameservers for domainsite-registered names. If you don't have your own nameservers, then you can always use the ones given to you by your webhost.

That explains why my great 2 character .name keeps getting borked in the reg process. Everything works except for payment confirmation.

I'm seeing many of these regged but most dont make sense to me. In order for it to have any value I would think some obvious relation between the word/term and ext are needed...

example :
