![]() ![]() | Some Useful Tips to Boost Search Engine Ranking Most businesses don't take advantage of various techniques to increase search engine ranking , but few things on the Internet can be as beneficial as a high ranking on a search engine. A recent Forrester Research report showed that 80% of web surfers discover the new websites that they visit through search engines (such as Yahoo, Google, or MSN). According to iProspect, 85% of web users use search engines to find solutions and vendors. Properly optimizing a website to increase your search engine ranking for each page helps it to attract numerous, highly targeted visitors- visitors that may become buyers. For the technically inclined, there are numerous places on the web to get detailed, in-depth information on how to achieve a high ranking on a search engine. However, many people don't care about the technical aspects of search engine optimization- they just want to know what is wrong with their website (and how to fix it). What follows is a practical guide that covers some of the most basic tips that can be used to increase search engine ranking. It is in no way intended to be comprehensive, but it should help the average website owner determine whether their website is optimized, and if not, how to make some simple changes to give each individual page of their website a better chance for a high ranking on a search engine. Issue #1- The Title Bar This is one of the most often overlooked techniques to increase search engine ranking. On your homepage, what does the title bar say? If you use Internet Explorer, this is the blue bar at the very top of the window that displays your page (it may include the words "Microsoft Internet Explorer" at the end). Does your company name appear here by itself when you have more important keywords to emphasize? Worse yet, does it say "untitled"? If you want to increase the search engine ranking for that page, this area should contain the most important keywords you see on your homepage. To check the rest of your website, click on any link from your homepage and see if the words in this title bar change for each page in your website. They should - and each title bar should contain the most important keywords from its corresponding page. Note: Very long keyword strings in the title bar should be avoided - six words or less is optimal. Also, words in the title bar should not repeat more than once, and identical words should not appear next to one another. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/search-engines/502397-some-useful-tips-boost-search-engine.html Issue #2- Content Search engines all try to list websites that contain good content. Translation: you need words on your pages to achieve a high ranking on a search engine, not flashy graphics. This text should contain the most important keywords that your potential customers would use to find you on a search engine. If you have very few or no words on a page where you wish to increase the search engine ranking, it is a good idea to add some, ideally around 250 per page. For aesthetic reasons, this is not always practical, but even 100 well-written words will give you a better opportunity for a high ranking on a search engine than none. It is also important that you make certain that the words are written in a language the search engines can read. Using your mouse, bring your cursor down to the text on one of your web pages. Clicking and holding down the left mouse button (make sure you aren't near a link) see if you can highlight just one or two words of the text. If you can, everything is most likely fine. If nothing happens, or you can only highlight a large block, it is most likely in graphic form. To increase search engine ranking in such cases, the graphic text needs to be replaced by standard HTML text to allow the search engines to read it. Your web expert should have no problem understanding what you require, and the transition should be fairly simple and affordable. Issue #3- Meta Tags ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=502397 Some people believe that meta tags are the Holy Grail of achieving a high ranking on a search engine. Unfortunately, their effectiveness is limited (many engines ignore them completely), but they can play a limited role on some engines. To see if your website has meta tags, go to your home page. Click the "view" command at the top of the browser window. From the pull-down menu, select "source". This should open up another window that shows your code. Much of this may seem indecipherable, but there should be two commands there (usually near the top of the code). One of these says meta name="description" content= and will go on to describe your company and products, and one says meta name="keywords" content= and goes on to list applicable keywords for your website. If these tags are missing, have your web expert insert them. Again, this may not do much to increase search engine ranking, but it will not hurt. Issue #4- Links Link popularity has become increasingly important for those who wish to increase search engine ranking, with 19 of the top 20 engines using it in their ranking algorithms. Simply put, search engines give a ranking boost to websites that have links from quality, related websites. There are numerous free tools on the web that will allow you to see what websites link to yours (just type "free link popularity check" in your favorite search engine). If you don't have many websites linking to yours, it may be time to start a link building campaign. This is where you find quality, non-competing websites in your industry and ask them to link to your website. An additional benefit of link building is that these links can bring you additional, highly targeted traffic. Conclusion Although following the above guidelines will by no means guarantee you a high ranking on a search engine, fixing one or more of the problems should help increase your search engine ranking. For the volumes of potential customers that a search engine can send to your website, it's certainly worth the effort. If you like the article please rate it.... Thanks, HamonPari @ www.URLPOT.Com |

![]() | Thanks for the tips, though meta tags are not the main factor search engines consider when ranking sites, but they should not be left off the page.

![]() | When looking for possible link candidates, start by visiting a search engine and typing in your most important strategic keywords. You'll see a lot of competitors, but look for non-competing, complimentary sites. Screen those sites, selecting only the ones that might be receptive to your link request. Give them a compelling reason to link to your site and be sure to suggest where a link might be appropriate. A good strategy is to link to them first and point this out, which might help get a link back. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well I did some testing some time ago and used no meta tags at all and the site ranked very well. Another example would be seochat.com. They rank #3 on google (term SEO)with these keywords "Search, Engine, Optimization, Google, Optimization, -, SEO, Chat" Do you think for one second thats what is helping them?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think Meta description tag is from where Google take the brief description it puts on search result or it would take a part from first paragraph of content.

![]() ![]() | If your web page does not contain any heading tags <H1>. I highly recommend adding these as they do make a difference in your search engine ranking. If you find that the font is too big you can either edit your style sheet to make the tags use a smaller font or simply put the font size between the tags. In your META description and META keywords tags. Most search engines no longer use the META tags as these have been abused in the past and filled with hundreds of (often irrelevant) keywords by people hoping to trick the search engines. It’s also worth mentioning that it is good to have your keywords in the domain name itself. It is probably too late for this, as you already have your website, but it is useful to know this for the future. |

![]() ![]() | Addition to SE Ranking Increasing your Ranking by Posting in Online Forums There are hundreds of forums on the internet. I by myself mostly visit http://www.big-boards.com for a massive list of forums. Once you have selected a number of forums that match your niche you will need to investigate to determine whether or not they have excess rules regulating signature files. For instance, some sites do not allow any links in signature files; others, by contrast, allow links, but do not allow any commercial links. Make sure you know what the rules are before you post. Otherwise, you are simply setting yourself up to be banned from the forum. Next, take the list of forums you have created – that are both relevant to your topic and allow commercial links – and begin developing a reputation on those forums. The best way to start your forum marketing is to make multiple posts on a forum board before you even setup a signature file, which includes a link to your site. Even if the particular forum you are using does not specifically mandate this, you will want to do this, anyway, as it will increase your credibility – which is your real goal. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=502397 Make sure you make relevant and useful posts on the forum. By this I mean no spam posts advertising your website and no short “I agree” or “me too” posts. Making spammy posts is the easiest way to get people to have no respect for you and potentially lose your login account for that forum. When you add your site to your signature if possible try to use your keywords in the anchor text of the link. Increasing your Ranking by Reciprocal Linking Reciprocal linking is when two websites link to each other. It involves asking other webmasters if they are willing to link to your site in return for a link to their site. Reciprocal linking is less popular than it used to be but it will still make a positive difference to your search engine ranking. Google and other search engines give less weighting to reciprocal links in comparison to the one way links that you’ll receive through article and directory submission. Please Keep posting your valuable comments and make this thread more popular and mega thread on namepros about SEO & SE Ranking. I would like to have also some comments from NamePros Staff. Regards, HamonPari %

![]() ![]() | Increasing your Ranking by Commenting on Blogs Commenting on other people’s blogs used to be a very common way of getting backlinks. Unfortunately this was abused as many spammers posted hundreds of thousands of irrelevant comments on blogs to get a backlink. For this reason a new tag attribute called “nofollow” was introduced. This attribute tells search engines that the link has been added by a third party and that it should not be given any weight as a backlink. What does this mean for you? Basically, commenting on blogs is no longer a particularly viable method of acquiring backlinks, unless the blog owner has disabled the “no follow” attribute. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=502397 If you still wish to use this method for increasing your backlinks you can find a list of blogs without the “nofollow” attribute here: Despite all of this, posting comments on blogs can still be a good way to get some extra traffic as readers of that blog may follow your link after reading your comments. Whatever you decide to do, ensure that your blog comments are useful, intelligent and spam free. Increasing your Ranking by Social Bookmarking In the last few years many new sites known as “Social Bookmarking” sites have popped up. These sites allow people to bookmark pages that they like and access their bookmarks from anywhere in the world. People can also browse the web by visiting pages that other people have bookmarked. Unlike search engines these sites rely on users to bookmark pages that they like and the more times a page is bookmarked the more popular it is perceived to be. When you add new pages to your site or blog it also makes sense for you to bookmark these pages on some of the social bookmarking sites. I recommend visiting a site called http://www.onlywire.com You can sign up for free and then register for most of the good social bookmarking sites through this site. It will take about an hour to register for all the sites and once you have done this you simply need to bookmark a page once on Only Wire and it will automatically bookmark your page on all the other social bookmarking sites. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had a bad experience with Meta tags stuff in one script. It was the script which was duplicating the meta tags all over the site. You can also see it in your google webmaster account that does meta tags have any place in google or not. You will see that they do detect duplicate metas and all
