Anyone else registering 3D domains?

It seems that 3D is going to be the the next must have technology, according to the big brands, they are all launching 3D TVs.

I attempted to find good 3D names but the best domains are already taken, I think in 5 years time or even less, those generic 3D domains will be worth a lot. :imho:

Anyone else registering 3d domains? Do you think they have a future?

And you believe this may be a Tm'd domain?

I don't see how.

Powerpoint is Microsoft trademarked product. If you make profitable (google ads?) site with MS Powerpoint templates or try to sell it, you could easily lost that domain. I dont say it will happen, but is it worth the risque? Better to put your money and time into developing sites which not infringe any TM.

And remember, registering TM domains makes all domainers look bad - in the long term, that can reduce your profit as a domainer or web developer.

---------- Post added at 05:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:56 AM ----------

gee are they going to try and grab lips3d from me?

Lips is popular, motion sensitive, MS game (and you know that). If you ever put any kind of generic advertisment on that site, at least one of them will lead to MS product and they'll be able to take domain from you if they wish. And without advertisment, I dont know how you can monetize this domain, so I would say you lost your reg fee money.

If you hope Microsoft will bought every 3D domain matching their games from cybersqutters like you, well... keep dreaming.

And stop to justify your TM registrations, you are giving very bad example for a people who read this thread.

* Take this as friendly advice, I lost lots of money on TM domains when I started domaining, and, looking back, I feels very stupid about TM domains I registered. I even reged McDonalds.TV after couple of beers (I contacted them later about giving them domain, but dropped after didnt receive any replies). And I'll repeat myself: Registering TM domains makes all domainers look bad - in the long term, that can reduce your profit as a domainer or web developer.

Hey I suggest you stop drinking and contacting a company to sell them a TM is pretty stupid

We bought this domain lips3d to sell lipstick products so no chance of TM here. We will put up a 3d site and women around the world will be able to put on different types and colors of lip gloss products. Check it out lips3d.com no Microsoft TM there .

I only know of the failing lips site because I checked google to see what lips brought.
It looks dead. Don't think theres any violation here big daddy

Just got:

Poker-3-d.com

I normally don’t get domains with so many hyphens, but I like to make a 3d poker site.

PS: Matthep as you said most domainers have learned to stay away from famous trademarks, but it seems like a few are just too vicious and those will be defanged. :)

As I wrote, I contacted them to give them domain for free, not to sell it. Only person here who thinks about selling TM domains is you. Nevermind, any further discussion with you is pointless, you just dont want to listen for any advice. Good luck with your domains.

If the name is a TM, stay away from it. You will end up parking it usual, and it will have infringing ads on the site,

In future, check here for any TM's, it might help you in the future

Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS)

Just because you couldnt find anything Google, you think its ok, lol...just enter the names you have in the link above to see if there are any TM's

Thanks for the help
I was looking for a TM site to do this
One said it takes 3 days to get the info.
I did not say I checked goggle for the TM on lips I said I went there to see what was the top 10 sites
I saw lips, com and it redirected to the xbox and that site looks dead.

My lips3d would not compete with that or cause any confusion.
No way is that TM but I will look
I did not buy it because MS had it non 3d
I bought lips eyes boots anything on the body .

Just checked it
no TM on LIPS3D

there is a TM on LIPS and its not from Microsoft
So can this guy take MS to court?
Its just an individual

Funny there are no 3D trademarks

I have eyes and there is no TM at all

So do I need to get permission from some guy in Florida who owns part of my name? LIPS
To use Lips3D?

Great site you sent me to
Makes things easier

I checked one that will soon be in my arsenal
*&***3d.com

I never said I would sell any domain to a company but I will say this will be a court battle with somebody out there. Even a guy at Go Daddy told me which is suspect but he said there are no 3d trademarks yet and I believe the guy, Not saying it would be ok to put up sears3d.com but they should have to compensate in some form to get the site from the owner seeing that this dimension still does not really exsist on the web. Or if they don't the owner can keep it forever non parked.

My search returned 2 trademarks for 3DTV and 1 for 3DTV solutions that are "live"
I wonder how that will pan out for all the registrations with 3DTV in them? Any name with google in them can be a TD infringement. A lot of wasted money spent by people or what?

One is from LG
The other a different guy
How can they have 2 different TMs for the same name?

Ridiculous or not its the law. They are in place to protect brands. Companies that file a complaint win 75-80% of the time. I think only the exact spelling would be TD infringement. For example all the different extensions that use 3DTV or 3DTV solutions. I'm not a lawyer though so best to ask for legal advice if in doubt.

Well this cannot be true seeing I said all along there are no TM on 3d
So mcdonalds3d is not TM by what you just said.
They would have to TM mcdonalds3d.
Either way its confusing.

Yes I do...it might take sometime to be used fully on websites, but once it starts I think it should work really well.

People are still buying up pointless xzqx LLLL domains at reg fee so why not take a chance and own a few 3D Domains..If you have a keyword that fits 3D it's not hard to develop the domain.

If you don't try you will never know....a simple noob rule leave TM domains alone

I do not think its very confusing. If you plan on making money off a TD domain such as McDonalds then plan on loosing it. If you try to sell if for a profit then that is making money off their TD. Or if you advertise products with their TD then that is an infringement I would think. Read up on TD law. As stated I'm not a lawyer but there is plenty of sites pertaining to the use of TD. You might be able to keep it and use it as a blog. Personally I would not touch TD names with a 10 foot pole. If you have lots of money for lawyers then good luck. I would spend money on buying a TD registration for a domain name if you think its worth big bucks.

Froy, how can you not understand this, 3D is not TM'd in this case, "McDonalds" is TM'd, NOT 3D

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some interesting estimates (found on the DNF 3D thread)

http://www.isuppli.com/News/Pages/G...-Set-to-Soar-to-78-Million-Units-in-2015.aspx

Electronics market intelligence firm iSuppli issued a report Monday morning that claims 78 million television sets with 3D capability will be sold in the year 2015. ”The market so far has been more talk than action,” researcher Riddhi Patel wrote in a note accompanying the report. “However, announcements made before and after the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January indicate that 3D TV is becoming a reality.”

At CES, Patel wrote, Sony, LG, Panasonic and Samsung demonstrated home 3D sets. Other companies showed Blu-ray disc players that played 3D video from standard-sized discs.

For the next couple of years, iSuppli forecasts that only early adopters will spend the average $1,768 selling price for a 3D set. But it’s likely that TV makers will soon start adding 3D support to inexpensive models, rather than keeping it a premium feature. If you can buy a 3D set in five years for, say, $500, iSuppli’s forecast for a tenfold increase in the number of sets bought by home viewers in 2015 doesn’t seem like a stretch.
