Dear all .tv experts,

I am not much in to domaining especially never tried a .tv

I just want to develop a video web and have found a name which is already reg. I contacted the person and the deal is finalized. He says the name is regged at Dynadot and the renewal is normal (no high rates) but it previously used to be very high.

I do not understand this part. What does he mean when he says that it used to be high and now it is normal? Secondly, if he is correct then is it possible that after one or two years the renewal rate goes back to that high price? Are there any hiding costs for .tv normally?

Is .tv registration and renewal stuff different from .com or other tld?

Shall be very thankful for your help as I am going to pay app. 2000 Euros for it.

Jimbo,

I believe since we have .TV new-comers daily maybe you should answer in a Post so everyone can learn.

I would have answered him, but I see you are taking care of it, but just to get this incredibly Cancerous Stigma of old absurd Premium .TV renewal fees, which are now gone forever.

I am sure your answer would be very beneficial to all .TV new-comers as you are quite thorough in your .TV facts.:)

You are 100% correct, in regards the Legacy .Tv Premiums.
Thx for adding that, I didnt mean to confuse anyone here.
I just wanted to help this member out and couldn't think of the best way to explain this whole new pricing structure.

Jimbo has a great way of explaining pretty much everything regarding .TV so that is why I was asking for him to reply in the Post.

Jimbo is the .TV fact King.:)

My Bad, I'll go sit in the corner now..lol

I sent a PM because I wanted to give a proper answer without the questioner having to give away his name/plans etc.

As for Premium renewals. I know if they are PREMIUM or not but when even ENOM will not actually confirm whether a name is a standard reg or $25,000 a year it is hard for anyone to know if they are being sold a pig or a poke.

The questioners name actually came up on Ahead.tv as being Premium but in actual fact is NOT a premium. How do I explain that?

I think Premiums can only be explained when Verisign explain they no longer exist - really no longer exist - rather than this ridiculous system in place at the moment, where there are hundreds still in the system.

I think it is also VERY important that if we see a person selling a TV name as standard renewal ($25) but we know it to be a premium - we should shame the shit out of them and ask they be banned from Namepros.

A name having a standard renewal is/was not a premium domain? I mean if a name would have a high renwals previously but now standard renewal rate.

I agree 100%!!!

Matter of fact I started a thread asking NP mods to add that within the .TV Marketplace rules section. I'm gonna go dig that thread up now that this whole mess reminded me of it.

I really wanted to reply but it so damn confusing right now, and I know everyone goes to ahead...which certainly was a great tool, actually still is as I often frequent it just to see what the former renewal fees were at one time.

---------- Post added at 01:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:37 PM ----------

A name having a standard renewal is/was not a premium domain? I mean if a name would have a high renwals previously but now standard renewal rate.

Verisign Declassified thousands of former .tv premiums meaning now they are standard reg fee domains with a one time initial Premium purchase (first year) fee.

All of the still existing yearly premium fee "Legacy" .TV domains right now are held by people who purchased them pre March 18th.

So basically you would have to go by the word of the seller stating whether it is within the old pricing struture or the new pricing structure.

That is why it would be awful to have a dishonest seller selling anyone a "Legacy .TV premium" under the guise of it being a standard renewal .TV, Well then that person should have their pee pee whacked!

one way to find whether it has standard renewal to check whether it is reg after Mar, 2010....is it true?

yes, true.

If it was regged after March 18th of 2010, you are definitely safe.

Most .TV domains regged before March 19th have standard renewals as well.

I hope this helps ... in a nutshell ... there are three types of ccTLD .TV's; those that have HEFTY annual (including upfront) "Premium" renewal fees that will never go away, those that have Standard $Xx annual renewal fees but cost one-time "no-more-Premium" $Xxx - $X,xxx Premium initial fees, and those that have both Standard $Xx Reg. fees upfront and $Xx annual fees ... weigh your COSTS and respective development plans carefully before investing, IMHO. :gl:
It can be quite confusing! :imho:

All the best,
Jeff B-)

I wouldn't be caught dead working for/with Verisign™ ... but I have seen no indication whatsoever that the outrageous HEFTY :$: annual "Premium" renewal fees (more specficically, for those so-called 'Legacy .TV's') are ever going to go away IMHO. :guilty:
If there is firm evidence to the contrary, please provide an update/link for our newest member.

Kind regards,
Jeff

Agreed.

You know it really is a shame.

With all of the smart educated people here, and some of the best writers, No matter how anyone explains thie mess, It still seems to sound confusing as hell.

Oh, by the way Jeff, Thx for trying to explain this whole mess to the O.P.

Verisign needs to address the Legacy tv B.S. one day soon, cuz this is really Un-F-ing-Real. Can't even explain a simple thing such as the pries....sad.

Thanks DS, and ^ completely agree ... I, too, find it very difficult to try to explain an inherently messed up and confusing situation; how in the world are beginners - or even potentially interested End users (which would be the ultimate goal!) - supposed to figure this out and understand this whole thing if we can't?
Madness.
IMHO.

Just my two sense,
Jeff B-)
