.tv ChannelMe.TV Beat to the Punch by Kyte.TV ??

Not wanting to detract from Demand Media's Launch thunder, thats a week away, I held off on posting this for a couple days but... Kyte.TV "launched" with some new tools that appear to be ass kickers. IF, Demand's don't measure-up to FREE LIVE STREAMING VIDEO not just on 'your" site but streaming LIVE to every site that has "your sites" video widget AND LIVE to all "your" viewer's cell phones!! WOW!

"Kyte.TV allows anybody to create their own interactive TV channel on their website, blog, social network or mobile phone. With kyte, you create your own live TV shows and broadcast them on your own interactive channel, on your website, blog, social network or mobile phone. You can share your kyte channel with your friends and collaborate with them so that they can also be a part of your shows, by adding their own content, by voting and by chatting live with other viewers. With kyte, you can share your experiences live with the world and be the star, director and producer of your own live TV channel, wherever you are and however you want."
:o

I've been playing with their tools for the last day or so and the tools are simple easy to use and the end product looks and works good. I think we have some serious competition... in so much as folks will not even have to buy a domain to have broadcast network style functionality on user named co-branded sub-domains.

It gets better.

"The company is funded by top venture capital firms Draper Fisher Jurvetson (www.dfj.com) and Draper Richards (www.draperrichards.com) as well as Atomico - the investment group whose principal visionary and co-founder is Niklas Zennstrom, who also co-founded Skype and Joost (www.atomicoinvestments.com)."

Yes. SKYPE ? JOOST! This gonna be good folks! And we got ringside seats (actually we are in the ring... and a 400 pound gorilla just leaped the ropes in the other corner).

"Own your own broadcast network
• From now on there is no hassle updating and managing all your sites.
• With kyte, your shows are simultaneously broadcast to every kyte TV you embed."

I wonder if Demand will step-up their launch... to steal a little thunder.

Yes. Sub-domains... with revenue sharing (down the road... from what I was told). Personally I'm not convinced advertisers will prefer scattered indpendent domains... with fewer bells & whistles and fewer viewers over the 1 brand domain with thousands of sub-domains amplified by countless widgets streaming content live. The individual domain(er) "branded" will not be much competition against live web-wide / mass branding. IMO. Our best card is are the niche markets. IMO.

Unless these sites have a patent/trademark on the tools, it only takes Demand Media a few weeks or a month and a couple really good programers to improve Demand's tools to match any competitor (except for maybe Joost???).

Obviously we dont know what Demand is doing yet, and how much effort they are going to put into continued development of there tools, so time will tell...

Also, the fact that there might be more to this with Joost somehow fitting into the picture in the future, we might be looking at the two Big .TV Gorillas in training...

But unless these other competitors have a marketing plan to rival Rosenblatt, then the extra week doesnt mean a thing, as Rosenblatt controls the .TV extension, which is the foundation of allthings.TV LOL

Good point about the marketing plan. And the fact that Kyte is a .TV will help market the ext.. Also, if Kyte.TV starts eating ChannelMe's lunch Rosenblatt could always create an "Ultra-Premium" catagory and put Kyte.TV up for auction with a $25million BIN.

Kyte/Demand Media tools

I'm a newcomer to the .TV forum but I've appreciated the information sharing that goes on. There was a great post recently that pointed to hair.tv - what a fantastic site for professional hairdressers. And it's only going to get better as serious bandwidth becomes available. A great use for .TV and a site that captures the best of websites and television.

Also an excellent post by eyedomainous about kyte.tv's new tools. The Kyte news is very pleasing. Competition between Demand Media and Kyte should help drive .tv domains over the next 12 months. You'd expect the quality of domains will be poor to begin with but 12 or 18 months from now we should see some terrific sites. I've developed dot coms up until now but I have a good selection of .TVs that I can hardly wait to get into. The real challenge is not the technical issues - it's determining the content.

Spot on !! Once it becomes easier to obtain and work with content ( video editing, uploading, etc ) the number of sites springing up should increase dramatically.
