I was curious to know of .info websites that get top 3 listings under google for general things, not really just hardly searched niches?

Germany.info ranks P1 for "Germany".

If a TLD is developed by a credible entity in a credible way, it really doesn't matter what TLD they're using, as evidenced by P1P2 (behind Wikipedia) for "Germany" being Germany.Travel.

What domainers don't understand is that your worthless, system-gaming, sub-garbage development isn't going to get you within 1,000,000 miles of the promised land, regardless of how 'pure' that keyword is on whatever backwater TLD you're using. Your ilk is persona non grata with Google.

But yes. If tommorow the Whitehouse acquired Whitehouse.info and made it the official site for the Whitehouse, it would rank P1P1 for most all relevant terms within a week.
If you own Whitehouse.info and put up the standard Wordpress splog, you won't see any traffic regardless of how many oDesk 'content writers' you hire.

There is a rub; domainers employing backwater TLDs to acquire bang-on keywords that trigger very high ad content gamed the system to the point that now, traffic sourced from a few different TLDs actually pays less than it's .com counterpart. It's entirely possible that there is now some kind of minor SE algorithmic [-(x)] component for .info. .us, etc but the real issue is most domainers not understanding how development (or, the internet) works, so they get some mountain of a keyword in a little-league TLD and wonder why they aren't ranking for mortgage refinancing, because they own MortgageRefinancing.ws.

My second forray into Namepros a few years back stemmed from a bet with a colleague, where I wagered I could rank a large keyword in a backwater TLD, that at that time was being sold in the Namepros sale form. I re-registered so I could buy it.

I lost the bet.

I dunno about that.

In my Google, i type "Germany", and what ranks P1 is Wikipedia on Germany, followed by Germany.TRAVEL

Followed by LonelyPlanet.COM article about Germany, then the CIA Website about Germany....

then followed by several news sites with latest news articles about Germany....

Germany.INFO is actually on the 2nd page.

I think instead of coming up with a few list of .INFO websites that rank well, the question is the statistics.

If you can mention say 20 .info sites, that really ain't much.

Perhaps the answer is because most of the serious content owners have already published their stuffs in the COM/NET/ORG domains.

And besides, COM/NET/ORG domains are very VERSATILE extensions in that they can be used for just about any kind of content. Unlike .INFO which (as the word "info" implies), has limited scope of usage.

Great feedback thanks. In fact my own website that I'm really thinking about here is a "Country+Travel+.info. It is 4-5 years old now and I have been wondering if it would be better to move it to a .com but I have alwasys thought travel type domains should work OK in the .info.

There are a few country .info domains that I can recall that rank high, Slovenia and Spain are two others aside from Germany.

I have a travel type .info that bounces around on page one of Google for a term that gets 1 million exact searches per month globally, however, it only ranks high for that term in a specific region. It's a city+flights dot info and it is earning low to mid xxxx per year with a single square ppc ad.

I'm finding Google to be very annoying lately, besides nearly crashing my browser with all their paid ads, javascripts and spying they now force you to get results on where you are located even when I have my laptop setup with USA date etc. Even using various broswers they still play games.

Have a look at some related threads
ok thanks

I remember you selling me one a while back. Never got around to developing it. But with this kind of confidence I will have to give my immense collection of geo .info's another look before dumping them.

You should take a stab at developing at least one of them if you can. Don't go with what would necessarily be the best name, but, the one that you will be best at developing.

You should develop what you are familiar with and care about most from your list (Assuming they are all places with potential to monetize).

If I can sit down and write an article on the subject based on what I already know, then I see it as a potential for development. If I have to consult google before even getting started I pass on development as I've found from trial and error that those sites are doomed for failure.

*As a side note... people take many different methods to developing, many don't even write their own content. My method may not be the best for everyone, it's just what is currently working for me.

As .info is quite a common top level domain tld now, it should be able to rank as high as .com domain names, providing the site is popular enough.

sydney bus
.info is perfect with some keywords

yeah they have been using it for a few years now with their .info url in most of their advertising etc and on the buses themselves. This is a good example of a successful .info, would like to know more like that! The problem though is it's hard to compare to the average Joe's website since they are a goverment or state organization.

What they are is credible.
Authoritative.

Average Joe Domainer is not building anything credible. He is building asdsense spam garbage that doesn't matter to anyone or any thing.

Believe it or not, average people can own credible, authorative websites but its not going to happen overnight and it will never happen with 'domainer quasi-development'.

I use the search rank statue build in with firefox. Usually the only .info sites I see doing well are big time search words for instance

teachers.info is a PR4
plastics.info is only a PR2 and they want to sell it for $5099.00 ouch
but stick with small words on niche topics and maybe that's the key

Hi, here are some results for google.de/first page:

- search term safetoy - 202k results - #1 is safetoys.info, #2 is safetoys.info/pet-toys
- search term safetoys - 636k results - #4 is safetoys.info, #5 is safetoys.info/lead-pain-danger
- search term safe toy - 277 Mln results - #5 is safetoys.info
- search term safe toys - 86 Mln results - # 7 is safetoys.info, #8 safetoys.info/toy-safety-videos
- search term "safe toy" - 760k results - #5 is safetoys.info
- search term "safe toys" - 2 Mln results - #5 is safetoys.info, #6 is safetoys.info/lead-pain-danger

Interesting: I saw no other dot.info website within the first 10 results and no other domain with the generic term safe toys besides the .net (one time), ranking after the .info.

Good luck!

I have owned some .info domains. I'd probably just go with .com, .org, and .net now... nothing else, at least for a while.

But imho its hard to sell to endusers unless you have a great keyword
That all depends on how much you're expecting. If you're trying to sell mediocre .info's for high $xxx or $xxxx then yes you may have some trouble. But low $xxx sales aren't that hard to make and they add up quick! :$:

Found page1seo.info ranks on the first page, currently 4th result for small business SEO. That's pretty impressive.
