I submitted a domain for Sedo's GreatDomains auction.

The domain is PlowToPlate.com

Sedo came back to me saying they'd accept the domain but I'd need to lower the reserve.

The reserve they said I should lower it to is way lower than I'd want to sell for -- because I believe the domain will get way more...

Sedo said domains usually get bid much higher than the reserve, and the low reserve is just to get things moving.

Is it usual for domains to sell for much higher than their reserve on Sedo?

Any statistics on this?

Thanks.

It will be not surprise if you will not receive any bids @Sedo's GarbageDomains…

I have had domains sell on their GreatDomain for much higher than the reserve, however i have also had domains on there that have received zero bids.

If you don't want to sell it for that reserve then my advice is don't.

You need to contact a lot of end users etc.. to generate bids on the GreatDomain Auction, don't just expect taht because it has been accepted you will get bids.

I'd be surprised if this domain receive any bids during the auction, even if you lower your reserve price.

This domain has no value except to

www.plowtoplate.org

I'm surprised that Great Domains would even consider this domain; the potential buyer could face a UDRP, depending on how OP has used this domain.

This domain was regged before the .org, BUT if the current owner purchased this on the aftermarket, then UDRP decisions have been decided on bad faith based on when current owner has acquired the domain, not original reg date. So I would move cautiously on this one.

ADDED: The .org people hold four trademarks on this non-generic term.

You can meet them halfway - just reply saying you can lower your reserve to $X - wherever you are most comfortable.

I agree that you are unlikely to sell it at auction. Seeking a buyer or just leaving it as a general Sedo listing is more likely. I reckon it is worth mid to high $xxx to the right person.

But yeah, there is a UDRP risk - although they don't look like the sort that would go after domain owners.
