There seems to be a lot of discussion about Snapnames in threads where Snapnames is not the topic of the thread. So use this thread to discuss things like:

Do you believe Snapnames has cleaned up its act ?

Do you believe Ron Jackson should not list Snapnames as a reputable source of sales information ?

Now that Snapnames has been sold http://namemonetizer.com/name-monetizer/2012/2/2/moniker-and-snapnames-sold-to-keydrive-sa.html
Will that make you more open or less to doing business
etc...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Snapnames has been shady for a long time, even if they cleaned up their act the bad rep will stick around.

But this is just my opinion ...

No.

RJ can report what he wants. prefer he called them shady rather than reputable.

No, I don't trust them.

I don't trust Namejet either. Talk about totally non-transparent (I've had issues with them).

I trust Godaddy auctions maybe 50%, but I'm still careful when I bid there. I try not to allow emotion to drive my bids.

I also don't trust J.P. Morgan or any other big business (LOL).

I think Ron Jackson should continue reporting the domain sales. After all, if a sale looks hinky, at least we can see it, and, perhaps (if so inclined), we can do a little digging.

The problem with a totally free market economy: big business seems be inherently corrupt, and the cards are always stacked against the 99% because politicians can be bought off.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if another domain auction scandal occurs.

Yes, at least as much as any other domain auction place. If you were a company that had this kind of press, you'd realize another episode would probably do you in for good. It's in their financial best interest to run a very tight ship. We can't see what's going on the other side, who knows what's happening there or anywhere. The only thing you can do is keep an eye on it, share information when you have it. In the end, I never bid more than I want.

I'm curious if people trust other places? And why?

Looking back, my last few transactions there, got 2 where I was the only bidder, the other 2 had bidders, one I bid more than somebody I recognized from the boards, the other one I won over who knows but it was a lot less than I anticipated, so I was happy with it. I understand what happened in the past but haven't heard of any current shenanigans. So my personal experience with them has been fine.

More than Namejet (and Enom) maybe :yell:
At least Snapnames have been exposed.
I am certain that there is shady stuff in the parking industry too. Do your own research.

Do you believe Snapnames has cleaned up its act ?
Difficult to tell.
They did damage control. But how exactly can we make sure this is not going to happen again. I think the whole industry should get audited and be more transparent.

Do you believe Ron Jackson should not list Snapnames as a reputable source of sales information ?
I think he should continue to list the reported sales. But adding a few additional disclaimers can't hurt.

Now, should he constantly remind readers about the unsavory past (with a footnote ?), including his own reporting on the subject.
Why not, but then do the same for every bank or corporation that has defrauded customers at some point, or been subject to antitrust penalties.

I don't perceive the change right now.

Let's not forget the almighty Goldman Sucks.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely D-:

I don't trust any of the auction houses. The thing is...they have it, I want it, I bid. I'm comfortable as long as I bid within my limitations on any given domain :)
