It must have been atleast 5 years since I last visited nissan.com after a friend told me they were getting sued from Nissan Motor company to use their name.

In case u don't know, u can read about the lawsuit from their site.

I honestly thought the issue would have been settled by now.

It would be PATHETIC if Nissan (car company) won the case. Why can't they just offer a generous sum for this computer company to buy the domain in an ethical way? I really hope that Nissan won't get this domain for free, or even get the small computer company to pay their "damages" - what a joke.

Nissan (auto) has big damages - the negative publicity stemming from trying to push around a small company.

Stupid, IMO.

I think they offered $10 million for the name once? That could just be rumor and misinformation. He shouldn't have to sell it if he doesn't want to.

"DECEMBER - 1999, Initial Filing.
More then five years after I registered nissan.com, legal action was instituted by Nissan Motor seeking $10,000,000 in damages, and to restrain me from the use of MY family name for business purposes on the Internet."

It was somewhat settled:

http://www.citizen.org/documents/CourtofAppealsRulingNissanMotorvNissanComputer.pdf

But the issue could be reopened if Mr. Nissan displays any hint of commercial
use for car-related products. One's opinion means squat if any applicable law
or decision says otherwise.

If any of you are the least bit curious to check any and all "facts" about this,
here's a thread to give you a heads up:

Mr. Nissan's use for his domain name is limited, but at least he still has it.

Totally agree - a very sad way to go about it IMO :td:
