Well to tell you the truth, I dont think people would be comfortable with using actual ZIP Codes as their domain names. Out of the blue someone could do a reverse search and get information such as phone number, actual locations and etc. It might work, but I dont think many people would actually want to do something like that.

I would pass on zipcodes myself.

Some really popular ones may get some interest like Hollywood, Downtown Vegas, Key West, or resort towns, but I'd guess that may be about .1% of them or less. I'll bet those are already registered. Big cities have many zip codes, so it would be confusing.

I own mine - But it's a small town (lots of tourist though)
I had #1 google result for a few months and yahoo for 28460 - Disappeared on google / #7 on Yahoo - Get a few clickthrus a week - No real advertsing or much Development on it "28460.com"

I'll Probably end up buying all in the county (12-13 Total) Just for the heck of it .... lol ...

I like this idea...in fact, GoDaddy just grabbed the zipcode of my city today!

once a bunch of people start doing it, a lot more will start and they will be more popular, not much resale value though, just pleasure

You are right they are becoming more popular. I live in Destin and that one is already snagged and being developed www.32541.com

I have to disagree strongly on the point that they will not have much value. A lot of people said the same thing about .tv and .in but boy are a lot of people profiting from those odd extentions today.

Book

I actually registered a local city zip near my home in 2003 and it does quite well.
Someone now owns the dot net.
And since it's 5 numbers it wasnt such a bad idea. I say go for it. I set it up as a
local message board and invited other local site owners to link to as there own.

I am in the uk so we dont have zip codes as such. Ours are area codes ie

br79qt.

Dont think I would bother ;)

There's probably some potential with US zip codes to turn them into local interest sites, travel guides, etc.

Wouldn't really work in most countries though. In Canada, each postal code is 6 characters (LNLNLN), and is unique to just a few houses (sometimes one house if it's on a big enough property), so it wouldn't be cost effective to register them.
