Suggestions for an Auction feature on Sedo needed

Spaceship
Watch
Hi guys,

I am planing to write a letter to Sedo containing a request and suggestions for implementing an Auction option for selling domains.

For the obvious benefits Sedo can provide i would very much like to see and use such an option on Sedo.

I mean wouldn't it be great to have just everything under one roof so to speak?
Therefor i would like everyone that feels the same to speak their minds and post suggestions in this thread regarding what you like or dislike about domain auctions.
If Sedo would implement such an feature what is it what would be positive or negative in your view?

I would highly appreciate it if you could post your views on this matter!

Thank you!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I think sedo "needs" to start to be more innovative, active and receptive to its customers ideas.

Unfortunately when companies get that big they tend to become complacent and stagnate.

I would be all for an auction place at sedo along with more sales prices shown, open bidding system, better parking pages.........the big question is - will they listen ??

Good Luck :)

Thanks Gazzip,

We can at least try can't we ;)
So if you would like to ad something regarding do's and don't's for an auction set up please do so.
I will summarize everything after a certain period and include it in the letter.

A journey of tenthousand miles starts with the first step right? ;)

I'm not too used to auctions apart from Snapnames :) which is great IMO so I'm not sure what to suggest apart from it being open.

ie: we list a name that we would like to auction off and anyone can join in right up to the end of the auction, similar to tdnams aftermarket auctions.

Hopefully sedo has already took the first step when they sent out a questionaire to alot of their customers recently - I just hope they listen and act on some of the requests :)

Thank You Gazzip.

- Keeping auctions open at all times so anyone can join the auction at any time.

Good one!

I'd really love to hear any suggestions including features you like or dislike with other auctions, even if they're non domain related.

We do listen to your suggestions, many of our SedoPro.com clients have been testing a bunch of new parking landers. Keep you're eyes out Gazzip and all, for a new Sedo Parking lander.

Feel free to send the feedback directly to me Damion - [email protected]

Best,
Mara

Hey, that's great. Glad to see Sedo active here.

This is one thing I like a lot about some of the auction sites out there: exposure on the homepage once someone places a bid, a la TDNAM or Afternic (TDNAM with its "most active auctions" and Afternic with its "closing soon").

ripley.

Good news - I'll be watching Mara
(Lets hope sedo have implemented the idea of customizable page titles as previously discussed)

How about having a choice of auctions ?

with maybe a seperate one for domains with a set maximum limit - ie: $ 500,

could be a good chance to attract the money men looking to snag a bargain and beef up their portfolios ? and a nice way to sell to resellers ?

you could set a minimum you would sell for and have a "buy now" option also

Just a thought :)

Damion,

Something I would like to see is, at least, a sticky thread for designers. Broken down into cats. I see tons of great designs (logos etc) that do not win in design contests that I would like to buy. I would like to see a NP's designers portfolio area for all the great designers here. I'm sure many designers here have tons of work done on NPs forums that they would like to sell/auction.
For that matter I would like to a domain "portfolio" section we could brouse for potential domains. Some times it seems the postings gets out of contronl and quickly shuffled to the rear.
Anyway thats my Two (2) cents.
Good luck with admin.

I think you have a few things confused here Namenut since i am not a moderator of that kind or have administrator like tasks on NP.
This thread is created in regards with Sedo and has nothing to do with the NP forum.

Your post is very welcome in the suggestions section of the Namepros forum but your post is out of place here and is totally irrelevant towards the topic of this thread.

Just jumping in again to let you know we'll be putting an auction system online in the next couple of months! Thanks everyone for the feedback so far, please let me know if you have any other thoughts. I'll post more details as the product develops.

On the parking front - more immediate exciting news from Sedo will be posted soon.

Best,
Mara

Thanks VURG for jumping in and sharing your views on this matter.

I think this is a very nice suggestion:

VURG said:
What I would consider to be a good auction format for domains is one where the auction finishes a fixed time period after the first bid. (Most likely 5,6 or 7 days) This means that as a seller you only have to list the domain for auction once and you are guaranteed exposure for your domain after the first bid. This also means that the initial bidder has control on when the auction finishes. (I like this as most auctions finish at times that are inconvenient to me.)

Your auction format suggestion should be an option to be seriously considdered combined with other options as well:

1) First bid auctions: Where the auction finishes after a fixed time period after the first bid.

2) Scheduled auctions: Where you can enter a date and time when the auction is going to be started.

3) Immediate auctions: That will begin right after you list your domain for auction.

Thanks VURG!
And as mentioned before a most active listing and closing soon on the frontpage is also a great helpfull feature for buyers and sellers.

I am about to complete a summary of my own ideas and some that already have put forward in this thread and am sending this out on Monday morning.
So if there are any more suggestions or views on this matter please post them in this thread.

Your opinion is very welcome!

Thanks :tu:

Looks like Sedo Auction will be ready to roll in mid-October, if the above schedule holds --- just about two weeks away.

Any updates on status and launch date, Mara?

Thanks.

I'm looking forward to it :)

Also a suggestion that i would like to put forward:

When an domain is put up for auction it would be nice if the seller could include a description for the domain and then also having the option to list additional domains as a add on with the auction.

I would hope Sedo will launch it right away if the basic, essential features (like those on eBay) are in place.

Additional refinements can be added later on. I don't think it is desirable to delay the launch because of some special features that could be added.

I am all for extra features, but they should come in future upgrades. The important thing is to get the essential features implemented and then launch ASAP.

Otherwise, on DN Journal Domain Sales reports, BuyDomains and SnapNames will end up taking all the limelights, burying Sedo in the process --- as it is happening now.

Go Sedo!

this happens quite often with me:

Somebody bids say $1000 and i accept, but i get a sedo rep replying

Dear Mr. Macpherson,

Unfortunately, Sedo must cancel this transaction as the buyer made an unintended
bid for the domain XXXXXXX.com. Depending on the circumstances of the bidding process Sedo may suspend the buyer’s account as a result.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused and please do
not hesitate to contact us should you have any further queries.

Does the new buyer certification system prevent this from happening

One solution to transaction cancellation by buyer is to assess a small fee (small, but significant enough to deter) to be paid to seller (or split between Sedo and Seller), even when it is an honest mistake. If it is not an honest mistake, account suspension is probably warranted to discourage such behavior that will lead to chaos.
