(.in) I have received an offer...need advice...

I have received an offer of $200 for a .in domain.

If I decide to accept I have to pay fees of $150 to Sedo, so I can't see myself selling for this price. The minimum I would accept is $1000 as it is one of my personal favourites that I own and I'm in no rush to sell.
Sedo have given me 3 options......
A) accept offer and sell domain (giving me $50 from the $200 sale)
B) make a counter offer
c) decline the offer and cancel negotiations

I have a few questions that maybe a few other Sedo members canm help me with...
If I chose option (A) and accept the offer will I incure any other fees from my registrar? The domain is registered with domaindiscount24. Also will I have to set up an Escrow account and if so does this cost anything?

If I chose option B (make a counter offer) does this mean that I have to put in my minimum ammount I will accept? i.e $1000? Also if the prospective buyer comes back and offers me the $1000 am I legally obliged to take it?

If I chose option C and decline the offer what are the chances that the bidder will come back to me with a better offer? Or is it more likely that they will assume I'm not interested in selling and not contact me further?

Sorry for all the questions, but all is new to me. It's very exciting stuff though!!

I had the same situation not long ago...

A) I wouldnt sell the name for $200 when you have to pay sedo $150 of that. I'm not sure about regstrar fees but sedo has their own escrow which is included at no cost as far as I know.

B) Yes, you would enter the amount you wanted, if he accepts it, he will pay that amount and I believe you'd have to sell it.

C) I dont think you can cancel nego without doing (B) first or at least I wasnt able to cancel without further nego. I submitted what I wanted, whch was 1000 like you and got no reply back. After waiting the reply period out, 7 days i think, you can then cancel nego.

Anyone else have different info?

Counter with something large, and keep the ball rolling (Especially if you like it that much).
The counter offer gives the user the chance to "accept" your offer, and if they do, you must sell. So if you offer $5,000 (as your counter offer), then they will have the choice of accepting (and buying for $5,000 from you) or counter offering back for some amount between their original offer and your counter offer. Then, the process will continue until there is no meeting of the minds or you reach a price that the buyer is willing to pay and you are willing to accept for the domain.

Thanks for the help so far. I guess I should chose option B then and counter offer at say $2000 being as I have nothing to lose...... If they accept I'll be happy, if they try and negotiate $1000 I'll probably accept, but if they decline and don't contact me again I won't be too bothered.
It's a quite scary moment for a newbie..... all that time I've spent registering domains with the hope of selling them and now the time has come I feel like I haven't got a clue what to do i.e exchanging the name from my registrar etc. And it's totally ironic that out of the 100 or so domains that I own they have to put an offer in on the only one that I was personally attached to!
Any further advice is very welcome.

Honestly, I'd go for the counter offer - what have you got to lose?

The domain certainly is worth more than $50 in your pocket. I'd throw the counter offer at him - go for a fair bit higher than what you actually want out of the domain and work your way down if need be.

I'm thinking of putting some of my newly-reg'd names on Sedo here soon so I'll keep an eye on this one. Hope all goes well.

Hi Chris,

Congrats on the offer...but are you sure it's a $150 fee? Sedo has only taken 10% off every sale I've made there-including a $180 sale I had,they only took $18.

Exactly. Anything that is not named in their list of $50 or $100 min is $150 min with 10% after.

That certainly puts a damper on parking/listing my Indian names there (which I currently do). Of course, even though this is a surprise to many of us, I guess we can't complain. That's their policy and we agreed to it.

Note to self: When dealing with new/alternative extensions, be sure to read and understand all details. :o

Wow,I didn't know that.That's the most ridiculous thing I've seen in awhile.Why stifle the sales of other extensions? It's just bad business for them,they could be making 10% off lots of smaller sales. It takes the exact same amount of work on thier part to handle a co.in transfer as it does a .com transfer.Actually when it comes right down to it,they do nothing with the transfer,they just offer a forum to sell and escrow the money.
Hopefully they'll change thier pricing structure at some point.

Well.... I have put in the counter offer at $2000 so we'll see what goes on from here. Thanks to you all for your input so far, I'll keep you updated if there is any progress.
I must add that $150 is very expensive by Sedo for a .in / .co.in sale. I'm sure it won't be helpful for either buyers or sellers.... no wonder these extensions are selling so well for 3 figure sums.... most of any profit on reg fee looks like it's being swallowed up by Sedo!

I hate when companies try to be sneaky. This kills all chances for .in and other extensions not on their special little list that would sell with prices between $5 - $150. This drives the prices for those through the roof and nobody that read the sneaky wording would ever list one. Are they trying to keep the extensions they support at a minimum?

If a .in is worth $150 in commission it had better be worth at least 1k to an end user or you just wasted a lot of money.

Just a quick update before I go off to bed....

Bidder came back to my counter offer of $2000 with a new bid of $250!
I've replied back with a new counter bid of $1800 (feeling generous as I've just won a few quid on Liverpool winning tonight!)

Keep messing around - it's hard to say if he simply wants to pick it up cheap or will keep on going with you - only time will tell.

I'm pretty dissappointed with the $150 fee, glad I have yet to park my domains there. I'll keep them myself for that price. Hopefully it will eventually come down.

I asked Sedo if they would broker my portfolio of .co.in. They insisted I park every one at Sedo and then said it would be unlikely they could do anything as the traffic would be insufficient to attract buyers on a new extension.

Basically they did not want to know.

As of this morning I have now sold 90 .co.in/in names myself and Sedo have lucked out on high $x,xxx of commission . :cy:
