It can and we use them in two ways:

1) We use a press release sometimes to get links back to our site, or to let people know about our site.

2) We use press releases by others to add content to our site.

yes, i do! i have been using 1888presee release, and trust me i get some really strong baclinks from there..
However, this press release service charges $25 per submssions, so it is pretty costly affair. i am searching for some paid service in the range of $5, coz there are lots of free services also, but they are so heavily spammed, that i am not very sure how strong are the backlinks

i use press release all the time. they not only give you backlinks but can also drive some additional traffic to your site. depending on where you submit, you may get listed on google news which will bring you more traffic depending on your niche., and if you can manage to get the PR published on some good sites, then there is a chance that your PR will show up under recent news section of google homepage. its well worth the effort

HI if you already have content for press release then I am ready to submit it on different press release sites which coasts you 6 $/submission and if you want me to write content than it will coast you 12 $/submission..

Thanx, but no thanx. coz i would be interested in knowing about the press directories where you will be submitting the releases...
I am not interested in any such help coz press releases are not like articles that you have to submit them daily, you just need to submit them once or twice a month.. and for this minimal service i dont need a help of a company or freelancer!

Free to sign up, free to submit, free to have published. You can include links(within reason), pictures etc etc. Will get you listed on all major news feeds like Google News.

Only stipulations - we will NOT publish material that doesn't meet basic press release standards and it MUST be original. Our service does so well because we strictly enforce our terms of service. Many free "press release" websites are nothing more than bad link neighbourhoods as they publish everything and anything, they are not listed on Google News etc and are not browsed by real journalists - ever.

Some press releases have had massive views - latest was one for a company involved with the movie Avatar - it was the number one result on google.com for four days for that search keyword on the day the movie was released on forward! Huge traffic!

I also not tried "Press Release". In my company we just doing social bookmarking, forum posting, blog comment,article submission and linkwheel.

Well I used Press Release service often to promote my site and believe it is good service if you really want to improve SERPs in Google and also build some traffic for your site specially if you dealing with product selling services! Their are many free Press Release website offer you to publish Press Release for your site and if you really want to take maximum efforts the write quality Press Release and submit it then wait for 2-3 days and you will see positive results!

Press release is really helpful for SEO purpose. If you want a really good result go for paid release. Press release immediately sends traffic but that does not last long. If PR sites are dofollow you will get some good backlinks. To get best result from free PR sites search for sites that is dofollow or allow anchor text( this type sites are rarest if present at all).

Well It surely a very good way to gain traffic but it is mandatory that you pubblish good artcles or you just wasting time..
But if your write a goo PS the traffic will be flowing to your site.
