Hi,

Been looking around and have seen odd, weird and wonderfull prices for hosting.
Assuming you just want to host a couple of sites, nothing with too much traffic ( maybe under 400 visitors daily ).

So, what about the following: ( looked pretty small to me )

a) Disk Space : 5 MB
Data Transfer : 500MB
saw that one for $8.95 monthly

b) Disk Space : 15MB
Data Transfer : 1000MB
saw that one for $14.95

c) Disk Space : 500MB
Data Transfer : 3GB
think it was $3.95

Just wondered what you would consider a decent package price for ( as mentioned ) only a few sites...and what itΒ΄s got to offer?

Multiple Domain Hosting: Unlimited
Sub Domains: Unlimited
Parked Domains: Unlimited
FTP Accounts: Unlimited
Email Addresses: Unlimited
MySQL Databases: Unlimited
Fantastico Deluxe: Yes

Hey man... IΒ΄ve web host and think:

anyone can offer 2GB space for $5 or he will oversell! how can he profit if a 80GB hd will support only 40 reseller accounts (remember I havenΒ΄t considered cPanel, OS disk usage), so 40x5=$200

Imagine a server coust about $100 + $20 cPanel license, so he will profit $80, right? not! I imagine u need 24/7 support and another stuffs... How can he profit? win maybe $50 per server? He will need a lot of servers... I know most space users buy, donΒ΄t use but is good u know ur space is guaranted!

200MB space is a good price for $5.00 :)

Believe me, it's not just about the features or the amount of space they give you for five bucks a month. I once got unlimited space and a bunch of other wonderful features with a British company, but my site went down every ten minutes and they replied to me through e-mails after taking forever to get to it. And they never solved the problem.

That was another reason why I set out to build my own professional-grade hosting platform. There's definently something to be said for 99.9% uptime and immediate customer service 24/7 with a 30 day money-back guarantee. There's something to be said for quality that you're not always going to get on the cheapest hosting platform. If you're serious about your site, you'll want a serious host. If interested, check us out.

Yeah I agree with Hanz, I have seen MUCH better deals then those.

BTW: If you only want 5MB space, you can get that free almost anywhere.

i have high dollars for small space/little bandwidth from reputable companies but still get very poor support!! even though they gurantee 99% uptime

when the servers goes down, it goes down!!:(

i agree with BarreTo. itΒ΄s a matter of disk space+bandwith but... it is a lot more than that.

and usually a lot of webhost doesnΒ΄t consider all the rest. unlimited sql or email is ok but better than that, in my opinion, is what kind of servers, stability/uptime, some extras and so on.

with low prices you sell but you donΒ΄t have much to invest on your hosting services and thatΒ΄s very important.

i woudnΒ΄t even think off hosting based only on price.

a package maybe like:

Disk Space : 150MB
Data Transfer : 3GB
$6.95 monthly

would be okay but... always think on what else you can give beyond unlimited sql, email and so on.:)

maybe i didnΒ΄t explained right.

usually i see a lot of the bugdet offers with unlimited in everything. and i agree with you. itΒ΄s wrong for a number of reasons in the long term but in the short term it atracts more clients.

we donΒ΄t offer unlimited even on the most expensive packages and in the first one we donΒ΄t even offer mysql:)

because they donΒ΄t need it in first place and if they need so many mysql for example, they should go with a semi or full dedicated.

thatΒ΄s what i was trying to say: donΒ΄t bother so much in offering unlimited and try to supply something different.

I'm not sure about the rest of the group here at NamePros, but at WHT, people get pretty darned competitive.

I've seen companies offering outrageous deals and be able to support them completely. AffordableHost, a HUGE company now, sometimes offers an entire year of hosting absolutely free. Dedicated server companies also will sometimes offer the first two-three months at a discounted rate or free.

Check out the prices at the websites below in my sig; these are only a few cents cheaper than most companies on WHT. We offer these prices because we don't really provide support (only if there's a real problem and it's on our end). Setup is automated, we check validity daily. We would (if our servers were full) be making around $300 per server per month. Uptime ranges from 97% up to 100% and we normally stay around the 99% mark depending on network downtime etc.

Again, there's a lot more to look at than pricing, but all three of those deals were a bit overpriced... (C) would've definitely been the right choice if you had to make one from those three.

Just my $.02 (wait, I mean $.01 after PayPal fees  )

I don't see anything wrong with the prices. Option b may appear more expensive than what you've expected, but that doesn't mean it is a rip off.

If you pay for that price and happy with the service, what is the issue?

Companies charging at that price probably is a reputatable and profitable company. They could be using high-tech and very expensive hardwares. That is why the cost is so expensive.
