I reckon it could be a biggy :td:

2 people diagnosed with Swine flu are only a 1 hour car journey from me.

Once a few hundred are infected, there will be no stopping it 8-X

25,000 people die from the "regular" form of influenza in the United States every year.

It's NOT freakin' Ebola. Don't ignore the symptoms... Take some Tamiflu, and you're in good shape :]

Exactly (except I'm not sure about the Tamiflu part.) People every day from things such as the flu and we don't break a sweat over it. Look at the actual statistics.

And this media-driven hysteria isn't without cost. People lose their jobs and livelihoods because of it.

SARS was a few hundred people, maybe a couple thousand, out of well over a billion people exposed to it. And only a few of those died. Your chances of catching it were a few in a million. Yet that didn't stop those who were "protecting" us from ruining millions of livelihoods and increasing poverty.

You're better off watching Lost or American Idol than soaking up this mass media crap called "news." You'll be more relaxed, too.

It is the end before the global warming end :D

It is funny though the way they are over hyping it. It is so easy to spot that it is being over hyped.

Finally, the travel agent has canceled their trip
and offered them a few alternatives!

I can't say I'm not relieved ;)

I was wondering... Let us know where they decide to go instead...

Those that have died from it...

best protection is to educate yourself about it

I was wrong about 25,000 people dying from the flu here in the United States... It's actually 36,000 people per year.

I heard the flu has spread in 18 countries worldwide. That should worry me.

blue pills?? *calls Galels wife*

As the head of the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention warned that more serious cases of swine flu, including deaths, are likely, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in California on Tuesday.

Still not even a little worried?

Nope!

They just declare a state of emergency to get federal funds to stockpile on medicines in case they need it.

I'm going to go make out with pigs tomorrow just to prove my point that I am not afraid of the swine flu.

Go out, wash your hands, and you'll be fine. :tu:

Figures don't lie, Galel cited what needs to be known. I see a lot of conspiracy theories on this one; 200 people die from a virus and suddenly governments are experimenting on people again...

Well, its not as bad in the UK as it is in the US at the moment (touch wood) and we also have 3x the supplies so hopefully I will be ok.

So nothign to worry about, however I do find it all very intresting.

Here in Mรฉxico City I know of two cases, one died, other was sent home and remain under treatment, none confirmed that virus was the trigger to their respiratory illness.

Recommendation:

Avoid direct contact with people you donยดt know how effective are their health habits.

Wash your hands frequently. Eat well, sleep well. Keep your inmunologic system well.

The virus is already there like the one of regular flu.

Well, if you're scared of the flu...take a look at doctors:

According to Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, 250,000 deaths per year are caused by medical errors, making this the third-largest cause of death in the U.S., following heart disease and cancer.

Doctors kill 7 or 8 times more people than all influenzas together. And that's in arguably the most advanced medical care system in the world.

Just out for a walk, or taking a shower?

Slip and fall accidents cause 16,000 deaths each year

Danger lurks all around us!

Some people claim that there is 100% chance of death for all of us. But, I think they're pessimists

I know I could walk outside and get hit by a car...
yet I continue to go outside
I know I can get cancer from smoking,
yet I continue to smoke

but I'm also a mother, and this has me concerned...
WHO has raised the pandemic possibility level again.

If I can keep my daughter from walking into the path
of what could be a speeding train - then I will!

Call me paranoid all you want!
