[REQ-LOGO] $50 logo contest (with $50 bonus)

Type of Contest : Logo contest
Prize : $50 (with additional $50 bonus, see below)
Contest End Date & Time : October 27, 2008 @ 5:00 PM EST
Size Requirements : Not too big, not too small
Color Requirements : Unspecified

General Requirements :
We are BitVenue Networks, LLC. Our website (and current logo) is http://www.bitvenue.com. A year ago, we held a logo contest on NamePros and ended up choosing our current logo. While we've been happy with it, we've decided to put more time and effort into the company these past few weeks after 50% of the company became under new ownership. We like our current logo, but it's too complex. Looking at our competitors (ThePlanet, LayeredTech, etc.), their logos are very simple. Not to say we enjoy our copying our competitors, but I think at this point we're looking for a new logo - something simple.

While we plan on redesigning our website, we don't plan on doing it soon. So your logo should fit into bitvenue.com where our current logo is, BUT we aren't limited to the color scheme (we can change the colors of the site), and we aren't limited to our current banner with the servers. The possibilities are endless, and in fact, you don't even need to check out our website before you start designing. Again, it's very important to us that you not restrict your talents and imagination to our existing layout. Instead, use our existing layout as a possible guide or inspiration, but keep your mind open. For the perfect logo, I'd re-design our entire site now if we had to.

Please make your design unique and original. We plan on copyrighting and trademarking the logo and using it in print, etc. We will need full rights to the logo and require that to the best of your knowledge it is an original design. No templates please.

A quick logo idea I had, though I'm not a designer so if this is a horrible idea, say so: A one inside of a zero, with the top of the one being a reflection of the outside the circle.

I guess the best example of this (horribly, I know) is this link:

http://img111.imageshack.us/my.php?image=33265543ia5.gif

See how the top of the 1 reflects the circle? Dunno. Its just an idea. Use your imagination!

Thanks to all who submit entries!!

Additional Information:

With recent NamePros policy changes, we are required to pick a winner. While we are 99% sure we'll find the right logo here, we're offering the prize as $50 in case we don't. That way, if we don't find anything we like (very doubtful), we pick a winner and pay the $50 and that's our maximum loss. However, we promise that if you are picked as the winner AND we decide to use your logo (which we most likely will), we will pay an additional $50 totaling $100.

umxca: is it me, or did this look different last night? (the bit4.png). Has it been changed, or was this the original bit4.png?

That is the original, no changes were made :)

Can I see a version of the logo that has a "cartoony" color feel to it? Just for comparison? For instance, alexcristache's recent attempt has colors that are a bit "cartoony", and a feel that's a bit "cartoony". I'm sure we want professional in the end, but I'm trying to look at all options. Thanks!

My business partner and I talked it over tonight, and we're actually thinking of a nice combination of solid purple and solid dark green, OR something to do with dark blue and we also like the red/black color combination. Just a suggestion for anyone who wants to consider any new submissions.

as someone stated before, coloring scheme is easily changed so any comments about the design would be most useful.

Hi again,

Here are some variations based on your latest color suggestions.
One thing I'd like to point out regarding your previous suggestion.
If were to pay attention to the basic rules of the color theory (color combination), purple and dark green are not complementary colors. They are both "cold" colors and both are "passive". For a successful and pleasant combination, they usually have to be balanced out by complementary colors (warm and active).

In our case, purple would be best balanced by a yellow to orange specter, while green, by a dark orange to red specter.

Of course there are more possibilities of combining colors, but usually, none that will involve both purple and dark green, without adding at least one or two other colors (which would transform the logo into a rainbow). Another thing is that (and you don't know whenever you'll need to used it), purple and dark green are dark colors that will not stand out quite OK on a darker background.

No matter your decision, take the above as a friendly designer advice.

And now, per your request, here are my variations for my 2nd and 3rd designs.

Version 2 variations:

logo-2-1-light.jpg

logo-2-1-dark.jpg

logo-2-2-light.jpg

logo-2-2-dark.jpg

Version 3 variations:

logo-3-1-light.jpg

logo-3-1-dark.jpg

logo-3-2-light.jpg

logo-3-2-dark.jpg

logo-3-3-light.jpg

logo-3-3-dark.jpg

As before, looking forward to your feedback.

Kind regards,

Alex

Alex,

You're right. The purple and green do not go together. I think at this point we'll keep searching for the perfect design and then work with the person we pick to change the colors.

Thanks for the revisions.

I look forward to seeing some more unique designs and submissions until contest ending early next week. Thanks!

Definitely the best route to go! :)

This post was edited numerous times - please re-read before posting

Just so everyone knows, we're leaning towards this design right now:

Since there are only 3 days left in the contest, we'd really like people to continue submitting NEW entries that can try to attract us away from umxca's rendition of our original idea, but for now we're really liking his work --- why we like this image: its clean, crisp, and centered. It doesn't look bulky, and it doesn't look off centered. Others we like of his include:

http://www.umx.ca/images/bit7.png
http://www.umx.ca/images/bit6.png

and somewhat:

Though we did not like:

http://www.umx.ca/images/bit1.png

because they were off-center, or just didn't flow.

Another design we liked, though right now its in second place because it just doesn't grab our attention as much, is Alex's design below:

Please keep the designs coming -- we would like to see new entries with completely new ideas, as well as other renditions of our original concept (see original post).

Just so people know, we thrive on being a company that offers personal service. We like forming a personal relationship with our customers. We also want a logo that is simple... so simple it can be drawn by a 5 year old (of course, not that crisp and clear, but still).

Also, umxca, could you submit a version of your logo with the circle rotated in a few different positions? While I like the 1, I'm not sure we want it straight up and down. Perhaps rotate the circle 45 or 90 degrees a few times and show a few examples of those rotations?

Thanks for any new submissions this post brings!

Best,

Matt

Great submission, but not really what we're looking for! I think we're for a more subtle one. Here, you can definitely tell that a 1 is inside a 0, whereas in the other logos we point out that we like, you really can't tell it's a 1 unless someone tells you. We like that.
