What other extensions did you expect to see on the the microsoft page when you saw this thread?

well, in a roundabout way, you have your point there. huh. what are the majors using their .com pages to promote by the hundreds.. it isnt't .net, .org, .info, .biz. its the little fun mobile site. mr.mobi. :)

Another "Dot Mobey" sighting!

Not only is there nobody around, but unfortunately the forest already burned down. 8-X

that's why smirnoff is chosing to run a full fledged mobile .mobi campaign after seeing the results of its test. that's why .mobi is exponentially growing in the mobile banking, auto, airline and entertainment sectors. what a good first half to 2008!!!

your posts are patently demonstrative of people actively trying to make a professional subforum become a .mobey playground. xbox and xbox.com sit atop a peak of a multibillion dollar industry. xbox.com markets its xbox.mobi for all to see and use. yes. you may find it a snooze. a tree silently falling in a forgotten, overhyped woods. a sighting of the abominable snowman. funny, for me a glass of champagne and a cigar please.

i guess its one man's treasure. forget .mobi, i take it you had no vision to invest in the mobile game sector...or mobile search, navigation, shopping, etc. you continually fail to see that these threads boast news that is not only great for .mobi, but great for the mobile investor.

.tv investors are experts in the extension and hopefully the larger picture of video and tv. .mobi investors are experts in the extension and hopefully mobile - the upcoming 6th medium. being an expert in mobile is challenging, while you heckle from the sidelines, we read whitepapers, join alliances, connect with experts and look for vc. a speaker for weather channel recently said that mobile is beyond our present imagination. there is plenty to imagine, create and explore.

you dont try to wrap your noodle around something real, stop being just a domainer. get into the real root of the trade(s) you deal with. otherwise...the real snooze...the real tree falling, well take a guess..

by the way, if you do have any ill-intent by peeing on these threads, karma's a b1tch and good luck with that...

Why do the mods allow trolls to piss in every .mobi thread? It is so counterproductive. Yes, it'll generate more page views for the forum itself, but it will only lead to another mass exodus. No wonder most .mobi developers and investors have left to other forums. Is that truly what the mods want? I doubt RJ wants that.

learn to ignore trolls . In fact, put them on ignore so you don't have to read the same sh!t every time they post. You'll end up enjoying this forum more when you've got them on ignore. Stop wasting your time replying to them and feeding the trolls. When everyone has them on ignore, they'll simply fade away.

re: XBOX.mobi

I'm glad someone posted the info here. I didn't post it here because all the useless trolls, but make no mistake this move by Microsoft is a huge MILESTONE for .mobi.

Ignore the naysayers/detractors, the ones who've mad comments about trees & forests, etc... BS.

XBOX.mobi is part of Microsoft's major campaign for xbox live anywhere. XBOX's gaming service reaches into 25+ countries and has 10,000,000 members in the xbox live community. The numbers are growing fast too. Keep in mind, many of the members are paying $50 a year for the live services, broadband users, early adopters, covering a highly coveted demographic. The userbase for XBOX & XBOX LIVE are a marketing juggernaut. If Microsoft has decided to launch XBOX.mobi, I do not doubt for a second each and every one of its users will learn about XBOX.mobi through the XBOX Dashboard. XBOX.mobi will be used as a portal for multiplayer gaming, downloads, checking your gamerscore, gamertag, halo stats, setting up matches, messaging within the community, etc. MS/XBOX has been planning their foray into the mobile world for quite some time... I am excited to see them use XBOX.mobi as the foundation. It's part of a tectonic shift. Just knowing that potentially 10,000,000 active users will learn that .mobi exists and perhaps start typing it in is very exciting. It'll be interesting to see if it has a trickle down effect, where other gaming companies (developers, producers, networks) launch their own .mobis, if game sites that are part of the XBOX ecosystem migrate to .mobi as well. And perhaps gamers will grab their own .mobi for their clan names, gamertags, etc... The power of the XBOX ecosystem has that effect. Let's only hope that MS continues to heavily promote their site. I'm connected to several major gaming services and industry insiders/CXOs. I'll see what they have to say about it. Perhaps I can do my best to push them in the right direction towards developing their own .mobi services. It'll be an easier sell now that they see that Microsoft/XBOX has embraced it.

great news for .mobi - truly great news.

Counterproductive to what? The mobi agenda? lol

btw xbox.mobi is incredible news...this is really big..mobi is gonna be huge any day now...

Aren't mobi fans tired of their own circle-jerk mentality and patting on the back at every new mobi development? Just curious because it's such odd behavior imho.

Mobi is great and awesome...go buy lots of mobi's everyone.

What is Microsoft going to do promote this other than mentioning it on the site itself and on one game page?

microsoft have started a series of banner and text ads on myspace.
they are being shown on blackberries, smartphones etc when accessing myspace mobile
obviously on rotation or whatever.

here is a sample:

Do a google search on xbox.mobi and you'll see most of the references are from domain forums and .mobi enthusiast sites.

becuase the developers have the site on their subdomain. lots of developers do this for all types of sites, very bad practice imo and is self serving, unless you plan to constantly have a campaign style site and can change site as and when, the url literally being the easy to remember address and nothing else. :bingo: now theres a thing
if its whats promoted then thats all that matters.

XBOX.mobi

Perhaps the biggest .mobi news yet.

For a long time the question has been "where are the deep pocket sponsors whose names were attached to .mobi at launch?"

Google.mobi is live - yes a redirect, so what, it is clearly intended for mobile use.

XBOX.mobi is now live - and pointed directly at the core market for mobile use. With downloads to keep them coming back again and again. It is difficult to imagine better news for .mobi.

You guys heard of a tipping point?
We may have just passed it.

We are far from seeing a "tipping point" imho...

Yes, xbox.mobi is great news and a nice step in the right direction for .mobi... BUT, it will take a lot more news like this before .mobi becomes recognized by the general public.

The significance with Microsoft using .mobi is huge. It cannot be overlooked. Especially when a consumer product as xbox is involved.

They are a "technology" company and could certainly have promoted their mobile site using xbox.com. They obviously have the resources to employ server side scripts to detect when a mobile browser is acessing the site to direct them to a m.xbox.com type page.

..But they didn't. They are using Xbox.mobi for one simple, YET powerful purpose. That would be to alert potential visitors they have a truly mobile site. In otherwords, it's all about Marketing their mobile site. m.xbox.com is not cool... Using xbox.com would require they add extra info so as to promote their PC and Mobile sites.

I've been saying this for a long time. .Mobi is not a platform that the dot .mobi folks would have you believe. It's just a URL... however one that can easily market your site as a mobile page.

btw... Check out the Google Blog... http://googleblog.blogspot.com/ (9/10/08 entry--Future of Search)... The author who works at Google, thinks mobile search is where it's going to be at in 10 years. We really only use Google when we are at our PC's.... Doesn't help when you need info on the spot (to answer a question) and you are no where near a PC (and you don't have an Iphone).

According to the author, voice search is going to overtake "type in" search when this happens. This is where I would disagree. Microsoft has been trying to perfect "speech" recognition software for years.. Billions in R&D, and what do they do? They bought, TellME... Which you never really here anything about them.

Nice summary. I certainly agree that this is good news for .mobi-- but we will need to see a lot more of the same before .mobi is widely recognized by the general public.

I disagree as well. I, as well as many others I'm sure, have no interest in voice search, even if it were 'perfected'... I'll gladly take an extra few seconds to run a Google search, rather than look like a moron to anyone around me for talking to my computer. :snaphappy:

There are too many scenarios in which a voice search is just not practical.

Correct. In fact, voice recognition won't work unless everyone speaks the default language properly. That will never happen in Los Angeles or other big cities. If you graduated from public schools in Los Angeles, voice recognition capability will probably laugh at you.

It's years off imho
hopefully maybe 18 months or so/2 years but we need hundreds of sites of this ilk and publicised

went out for beers last night and about 3am was outside in smoking area and was talking bollox as u do
:sold: and chatting to a couple of IT guys, they just looked at me blank when i mentioned .mobi , BUT having said that it's staggering how little a lot of IT guys actually know lol

one good thing when i was chatting to a girl on Barclays Bank's custonmer team on the phone the other day, she knew they had a mobile site at barclays.mobi, although I don't know whether she just didn't want to lose face by a customer telling her something she should know about, as those little madams are never wrong are they? biatches :sold:

A definition issue-

To me a tipping point is not the point where things really get going in an obvious way ---
As I meant the term, it is the subtle point when a pattern begins to form.

The seed germinates, if you wish.

What core market is that?

Difficult to imagine better news? Tipping Point?............Are people really that unrealistic in their thinking? How about .mobi being used by significant sites, google, youtube, facebook, myspace, msn...that would be "better news".

Xbox users have large disposable income and computer savvy. The same market should be central to mobile web advertising.

I explained my use of "tipping point" above. Google.mobi is online, such as it is. I actually would prefer seeing Xbox.mobi (as a frequently accessed download site) than the others you list because of the association with Microsoft, a more established company, and because MS is a DotMobi sponsor with previous AWOL status.

And, as often mentioned by others, the best .mobi sites will often be new creations focussed on mobile use, not re-created versions of existing .com websites.
