Considering all the discussion about Sex.TV, the research EQ did, and the debate on TV.TV I've been thinking a-lot about SexTV.TV and if the asking price makes sense or not.

The person who owns SexTV.TV has a price tag of $150,000 for it.
I have emailed this person and confirmed that they are only accepting offers over $100,000

Who here thinks this price for SexTV.TV is valid, over priced, or under priced?

Obviously the word "Sex" is one of the top keywords in domaining, so in a sense this could be the holy grail of TV.TV and all other keywords fall in place below it.

What would you value SexTV.TV at?

Wow. Thanks ray in taking the time and research into your recent post. My thumbs are tired scrolling down from my blackberry lol.

Very well done ray. I would give you np dollar but I gave them all away during Christmas lol.

Adult area is a booming business and a couple months back I sold some names cheaply which I regret. .tv and this area goes well.

Sextv.tv I am not sure on traffic but I assume its doing 1500 uniques a month. Based on sellers expectations of 150,000 it surly is a bit much but I am sure the traffic is picking up month by month.

Good luck everyone.

I still think there is a fundamental lack of understanding related to domaining and that is the reason for the large variance in different valuations of these names. Until that gap is closed, you guys will continue to discuss this in circles.

From a brandability point of view, it would be a costly mistake to use a tv.tv for a website in my opinion because of the confusion involved. Once you get over the .com hurdle, now you just put another hurdle up with the extra tv...chances are you will lose traffic to the .tv site. For that reason, tv.tv has little value FROM a brandability perspective.

The value in tv.tv domain stems from the way a search engine sees a tv.tv site. I believe newstv.tv has a higher profile than news.tv from a search engine perspective for the search term "news tv" ASSUMING these sites had exactly the same content, number of pages, number of incoming/outgoing links, etc...in other words, all things being equal.

There is no lack of understanding with regards to domaining,I think not everyone is a domainer, Domainers make money from traffic domains, Frank Schilling once said to me he never understood how people with domains that do not get traffic are domainers. They are investors in a niche they hope takes off or they are developers but not domainers.

Bottom line is with money you can brand anything, I always laugh when people say something is brandable when anything is brandable. People told the guy at 1800 Flowers he was crazy.

But with money and content anything can and will be branded. IMO it is easier to brand something with a number, because if someone says tome my domain is SEX360.tv
I certainly am not going to be confused I heard him say 360, where you could have some put SEXtv.tv and others mis hear and go to SEX.tv. Again if someone keeps shouting SEX360 you are not forgetting the 360 unless you are stupid or have problems hearing. If its in writing you are certainly not over looking the 360 unless you are illiterate.

So the whole this is brandable and that's not I just disagree with 100 %. Anything is brandable.

ESPN was told you cannot call your sports station ESPN its not brandable, with enough content and exposure it is SPORTS.

GOL tv certainly has the cash to pay the premium yet GOLtv.tv was fine for them and their brand.

I guess I never got the whole misunderstanding I thought reading and hearing were basic, if someone says to me my address is SEXTV.tv I am not going to Sex.tv.

And for .tv Investors tv.tv provides the chance to take a $25 reg and resell for 10 to 100 times Again IMO

Ray, what is your view on the quote you attribute to Frank Schilling? What defines a "domainer" to you? Would you say that if you buy domains that do not have traffic and sell them for a profit then you are considered a domainer? is there some threshold you have to meet in any way. If so, what is it?

Let me correct this statement:

"I still think there is a fundamental lack of understanding related to domaining"

I still think there is a fundamental misunderstanding (among some people here) related to how a search engine sees XXXXtv.tv and XXXX.tv. That, in my opinion, can explain why some are giving an especially low valuation to a keywordtv.tv domain name(s) while giving substantially high valuations for the counterpart, keyword.tv domain name(s).

Search engine traffic to the tv.tv will likely be greater to the tv.tv than the .tv for "XXXX tv" searches.

I think that branding a tv.tv is somewhat counter productive because the opportunity for confusion among potential customer is great, but that is just my opinion.

You (EQ) and others here might not be confused, but you (we) are educated and in the top percentages of the world population. The average consumer that most of these sites cater to are less intelligent and there level of attention to detail is also much lower.

Yes, anything is brandable. Anything you put a substantial money behind has a chance, but the point is to lower the hurdle to success as low as possible so you can step right over the bar.

I do not want anyone to misunderstand what I am saying. Yes, keywordtv.tv domains can be good investments for $25 a year, but my feeling is that I wouldn't bet on my brand on using a tv.tv.

In my opinion, .tv.tv is viable in such strong keywords. Some of these are generating decent traffic so for even that purpose alone they have value. I was very fortunate to pick many up early on:

SportsTV.tv
BlogTV.tv
SexoTV.tv
GameTV.tv
GamesTV.tv
FreePornTV.tv
JeuTV.tv
JeuxTV.tv

My biggest traffic domain so far above has been SexoTV.tv which gets around 1500 uniques a month when I had it parked at Sedo.

I agree with this statement above. I would struggle to wrap my head around a major project on a XXXXTV.Tv particularly if the XXXX.tv is available.

Of course you can brand anything with sufficient dollars as Ray said. But if I am spending sufficient dollars (e.g. XXX,XXX or X,XXX,XXX) to brand something, then then why not also buy the .tv as well. You are not going to "brand" anything with X,XXX or even XX,XXX IMHO.

I know the people like GOL and OWN have done exactly this, but that does not necessarily mean it is the best thought out decision. Big companies do idiotic things with domains all the time.

I am not arguing that there isn't X,XXX to XX,XXX value in some keywordTv.tv and certainly sextv.tv is a great name just because "sex" is the best keyword in the world so any variant of it is pretty OK but once you get into "normal" keywords, I think this is more a traffic or reselling play than a "launch a major development" play.

just my 2 cents.

Then why is MTV.TV developed?

Thankyou for sharing this information SKG. You are always very helpful and honest with your posts and business transactions on here. That is some very nice traffic.

I am glad to see you doing well with them SKG that first post on TV.tv back in 2006 has done well for a lot of people on here from the feedback I have read or gotten in a pm.

Antonis you make a good points as well although I do not think when I first wrote about tv.tv it was for a major brand. It was another niche play in great keywords to reg some domains where you could make 10 to 100 times your money. I know you picked up a couple that were $110 Premium so you must see some value in them.

Sexotv.tv for $25 getting 1500 uniques a month is a good deal, and developed it would probably grow traffic with SEO so that is well worth the $25 IMO

Girlstv.tv gets offers all the time mostly low but one $2000. But even the low would be 10 to 20 times the reg.

Roy has built a great Sports tv.tv line up with just about every sport. And as .tv grows so will tv.tv and I do not think its idiotic to use for a copr site when Verisign wants to charge outrgeous premiums on some, they tried to rip off GOL instead of being $500 they made it $5000. The premium system is what IMO helps the growth of tv.tv because plenty will not pay the premium fee and renewal. Again IMO

umm..."MTV" is the company's name. it is more logical than www.m.tv in my opinion.

their US site is MTV.com and so it is perfectly parallel.

That is 100% correct Ray. I do see value in them. But we should not get carried away.

XX,XXX sales are rare in regular .tv and are going to be very rare in tv.tv for the time being. I mean look at the post right above this one where porntv.tv was just bought for less than $1,000. i doubt anyone would sell porn.tv for less than $100K if it were a non-premium.

and mostly I wanted to agree with Lance's point that I would think long and hard before putting a major development and branding effort behind a *tv.tv.

for example. I come from cyprus and have ayianapa.tv which is the major beach resort. someone developed ayianapatv.tv. i think he is exposed to me developing. and if we were both branding at the same time, I think I would win a lot more of his mistyped traffic than the opposite.

again, it all depends what your budget is. if your total development budget is X,XXX or low XX,XXX then it makes sense to spend the money on developing a tv.tv instead of paying premium fees on the .tv. it would be different if your development budget is xxx,xxx...

Jack,

Well done on PornTV.TV, but again - massive keyword under 1k. These buying of tv.tv is purely for flip or personal development...no normal company is going to cough up 35k for ANY tv.tv. They will offer very low xxxx for the very best tv.tv and that is as good as it gets..

I have some tv.tvs, but am happy if i get 10 to 100 times ROI meaning a top sale of $2500, but anything higher is pie in the sky.....

i own sjtv.tv, dctv.tv,lvtv.tv, wholesaletv.tv, tradeshowstv.tv, closeoutstv.tv, auctionstv.tv, thailandtv.tvand sanjosetv.tv....but that is it for me........

LVtv.tv is very nice, IMO

Porntv.tv again was bought by a domainer, I do not think you can expect big $$$ I agree. This started with SEXtv.tv and I could see in a good market an end user paying $20,000 unless the user wanted to get creative because many variations on sex are taken mysex.tv sextv1.tv sexchannel.tv channelsex.tv sexotv.tv sexytv.tv, SO for an end user I could see that price tag. What goes on in the domainer world never should enter into values especially in the .tv domainer world. Just not that much money being spent. Again IMO

Maybe its time to start talking about traffic and premium renewal fee's LOL

For PornTV.TV:

How does 300-400 type ins per month sound?

How about 30-40% click through rates?

Names like this are dangerous because they are highly legitimate keywords and do not have renewal fee's up the yin yang.

EQ is right, this was a domainers purchase and I can tell you traffic is increasing.

I wonder how many undeveloped premium .tv names are getting that many uniques?

Seriously though Jack, i think you will sell for at least $2k within three years - but to an end user - which is where i disagree with eq...who thinks there are end users out threre willing to pay xx,xxx for top 10 keyword tv.tv - i disagree big time - only an end user would consider $2k range, domainers have already made their profit by selling it to you!..... :)

different opinions are good and healthy....time will tell......and for the life of me i cannot understand the reasoning behnd owntv.tv......even if it cost 1$ and own.tv a million........still shaking my head on that one........maybe oprah is feeling the financial heat after donating all that cash to the obama campaighn!!

First off what I really care about is that people make money the tv.tv discussion started here ( Not that there were not some already regged, I mean discussed as an investment idea) So I am glad to see people doing well.

SKG is certainly doing well
Roy has quite a collection
Lance has done well with Pokertv.tv
Girlstv.tv has had 6 offers $250 to $2000
Jack has an excellent buy
Antonis has some good ones
PhoenixSuns has a couple traffic ones
I think a lot of people have some decent Geotv.tv
Poodle has PODtv.tv
You have a nice one in LVTV.tv
That's what the first thread was all about. Now to discuss XX,XXX yes I believe for SEX and Porn not all top 10 James do I think could see $20,000 maybe $10,000 but sex and porn have so many variations taken. Now Business great keyword but a lot of variations still avail. Example I regged BusinessOnline.tv for $25 last week. So I would not pay $20,000 for Business but an end user may pay $10,000 with the outrageous fee of Business.tv

Again IMO

I think over time the traffic numbers on some of these keyword tv.tv names are going to make some people think twice about what they are regging.

Make no mistake about it, they read this forum and changed newstv.tv to $1000 premium for a reason.

There is alot of things you can do with tv.tv and it only costs $25 a year.

In my opinion, tv.tv is yet another legitimate chance for people to get into some serious keyword domaining, with out getting bent over with premium renewals.

I bet if Verisign could do it over they would have pulled every single tv.tv off that was connected to a premium and would have made them a set.

Im not saying all premium renewals are bad, im just saying there are other angles available.
