The OP was about "the mobile listing" a simple TXT service for RE info. Why does everyone feel the need to defend .mobi over this?
You misunderstand. I'm not defending .mobi I just think this business will be threatened by .mobi. If I were running an office why would I spend $15/month per house plus $17 start up whenI could just have the agent plug info into the CMS that drives a .mobi site for free? Then guide the public to the website on the signs. Like I said in my first post, "I think this business model will be dead once .mobi hits the ground running."

Well if you look at the signs on themobilelisting.com site, you'll see that the brokers company name and phone # are in larger print. An agent who works for a broker is not allowed to display his cell phone numer larger or above their brokers. They are also not allowed to display a website be it .com or .mobi It's against the real estate laws. So neither .com or .mobi will kill this business model. Just an fyi.

The signs where the TXT to is on top is a mom and pop broker/real estate business and they make their own rules for their business and signs. But as for an agent working for a broker, it's a big no no. And there are way more agents working for brokers then there is mom and pop shops. Which if they wanted, could use .mobi or whatever on their signs if they choose to.

As for price for services, cellsigns is one and the mobilelisting is another of many. Advertising always cost something and for an agent the prices you quoted is cheap and there are cheaper.

Is this the case in your state? Are you saying it is illegal to put a URL on a house for sale sign?

totally wrong, there is no such rule, maybe your broker specifically... which 'real estate laws' do you speak of?

Righto, the Mobile Web is coming ... but I'd like to ask, if possible, the O.P.'s father, the actual Realtor™, if he uses the Mobile Listing / CellSign service(s), IHHO? :gl: :talk:

Thanks again for the post, very informative.

Yes, its illegal. If I work for Coldwell banker you will see ColdWellBanker.com on the sign. I can not put hasrobrealestate.com on the sign or even coldwellbanker.com/hasrob.

The part I am not seeing is where it says they are not allowed to display a website.

The key words are "Only under"

I can however make up my own sign say hasrobrealestate.com and point it to my site advertising my listings. But when it comes to working for another company like remax whatever, I cannot put my link on their sign.

We can use our personal site, our brokers site, and we can use the address of the property as the url ex:http://www.4515thoroughbredcourt.com/

In response to the OP, I'm not sure that the TXT thing will be long lived as it relates to listings. The forward looking REALTOR and brokers are looking at mobile MLS were you can just pull the listing up on your phone. EX. http://www.ngmls.com/mobile/

You can have bigbackyard.com if you want, but you cant have it on your sign if you work for a broker. Only the broker or company you work unders site can be on the actual sign for the listing.

Legal:

Remax.com
Ph# 555-1212
Your cell # 555-1313
Your Txt #

Illegal:

4515thoroughbredcourt.com
Your ph#
Remax.com
Remax ph #

Again, if you run your own business you can have anything you want on your sign as you dont work under a broker or for a remax or coldwellbanker etc.

It seems like you are basically trying to say that having real estate names are worthless whether they are in .com or in .mobi since you cant use them? I guess a name like ChicagoRealEstate.com would be worth regfee according to you, lol.

Dont be an idiot your whole life nrmillions :)

You can have any domain name website you want, you cant however advertise it on your brokers sign which is what this discussion turned into. Did you even read the last few posts?

Talk about LOL _\|/_

It must be different state to state. As long as we use our brokers sign we can hang "riders" on them with site addresses. We can advertise a Vtour, property specific site, or our own personal site.
