Great news for China mobi market.

But haven't seen any promotion for the site.

Baidu.com is the biggest search engine in China, holding more than 80% of the market.

It has to do with the coding. They are using a header that is not compatible with regular PC browsers but works fine on a phone. Either is allowed in .mobi code compliance from what I understand. There is a bit more info available here. http://dev.mobi/node/277

Good news for .mobi. I saw baidu also expanded their business to Japan. Baidu does better (more relevant) indexing for Chinese (and Japanese Kanji) than google.

Yes, Baidu.com is the biggest search engine website in China. I used to use it when I was in China. in fact, most of people in China search sth. on Baidu.com, not google.

Ahh...what a great start to my summer! :kickass:

I guess I slipped up on this...

I had seen it two or three weeks ago (not sure when) when I was actually on Baidu.com (I use it and google.cn or google.com) to measure returns on IDN's that I might consider.

Some of my rants (what? me?) I mention time and time again about the Chinese efforts to dominate IDN, internet with .cn, pressure from the government, and the common thread to all the ccTLD's and IDN mess will be .mobi. This adds credibility to that claim. Asia is accepting mobi by the millions along with India (reports are youth is mobi crazy in India), great news coming out of Europe, and picking up steam here in the US.

With all the fanfare of the new releases I thought this may have already popped up on the radar on one of the threads.

So, a latent YIPPEE!

Am I understanding you correctly, Baidu.mobi is marketed on Baidu.com homepage? All I see is question marks on my screen because I'm not set up to display the Chinese writing.

Shhhh...don't tell anyone...but I was looking to reg it a while back while I was on Baidu looking at IDN (chinese character in particular) results. Then it dawned on me...I wonder if this was regged? It was. Then I wondered who had regged it and went to see if it was parked or a site? Guess what? It was a site! And guess what, it was Baidu!

Keep this to yourself. Don't tell anyone, okay?

Is that IE7 or FireFox?

Some will show up as question marks and black diamond or boxes no matter what, it seems.

Baidu is HUGE!! Very good news! Also, it doesnt matter where it forwards to because all people have to know is to go to Baidu.mobi. This will give recognition to .mobi to hundreds of millions of people.

For me, Baidu.mobi simply points to ... Link: http://wireless.baidu.com :gl: :guilty:

Because all people have to know is to go to Baidu.mobi?
How will they know to go to Baidu.mobi?

IF they are promoting the forwarded Baidu.mobi that may be a step in the right direction ... but much more significant IMHO would be a developed website also being promoted and advertised! :music:

Good point, like I said ... IF Baidu.mobi is being marketed on the .COM homepage (or otherwise) it is a positive first step, in my view. Developing it and adding it to the "ecosystem" - like the BOFA.mobi example - will be much more significant and meaningful for the .MOBI extension! :imho:

Just my two sense.

It doesnt forward if you access it from a mobile phone, you are probably using your PC. it is a positive first step whether they are marketing it on their .com site or not, it will be even better if they are though. this is even bigger than bank of america and we arent talking about some small little chinese website. There are only 6 websites on earth bigger than this one! It doesnt take a genius to know this is great news for .mobi

Isn't that insane? Google is global, paid dearly to do business in China, is not the number one search engine in China (much to their dismay I am sure), and still no active .mobi presence.

Perhaps Google does not monitor their own search results regarding trends, number of cell phones in use, the growth, etc. Not that I am questioning Google cash machine, but perhaps they should hire someone to do something like, um...make a google.mobi?

I'll even venture to say that some members on this forum would LOVE to have that on their resume...google.mobi designer/developer.

My oh my, perhaps they are still banking on the success of m.google.com. :-/

companies like google can use m.google.com and also google.mobi since it costs pocketchange for them to set up a .mobi. I am sure once things start rolling they will have theirs running.

On my phone I can't even see the url after the page is loaded so it doesn't matter anyway. It could redirect to LookAtMyLameDomain.ug and I wouldn't know or care. The front door is all that matters.

Excellent. How do you like it? Have you seen any promotion of it?

DON'T EXPECT BAIDU TO PROMOTE IT OR EVEN TO MENTION IT! THE BAIDU.MOBI IS NOT OWNED BY BAIDU.COM! :(
