I would have thought that the sale of a "hyphen" domain being regarded as "news" sums it all up nicely

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean ?

I think sales ranging from $300 right up to $31,000 is not be be sniffed at even if it is going aginst the grain

floatingworld · Feb 19, 2006

the anti-hyphen prejudice is a serious and persistent illness.
someone should tell these guys that hyphens are a no-no: www.bank-of-china.com

legend2 · Feb 19, 2006

Hyphens gives you a pain in the fingers in order to access a domain. I wonder how come people still pay that much for em.

Kate · Feb 19, 2006

Perhaps hyphens can help for seo purposes but I don't reg them. There are exceptions though.

m66 · Feb 19, 2006

Problem is, if the person who bought restless-legs.com develops a web business, he will end up losing a lot of traffic to the owner of restlesslegs.com, unless he owns that domain already.

Because there can be only one ! (highlander)

Some people don't mind or have no choice but to be number 2 - and save thousands IMO

Some - that is assuming it does indeed get direct type in traffic - but the hyphen "may" gain some traffic in search engines - this is of course dependant on alot of other issues - design - content - incoming links etc.

I think the sales speak for themselves. I think there are enough end-users out there who will buy hyphen names. It just depends on what the end-user is looking for. I wouldn't rule out any name with a hyphen. Times have changed. Yesterday's domain rules have changed also, IMHO

gazzip · Mar 15, 2006

Hi........I'm back

I've added another 10 recent hyphen sales to the first list

Hey - they keep selling ! There's 3 of them on sedo's homepage today.

.

BurninDragon08 · Mar 15, 2006

Dang, I never thought in a million years that hyphen names would sell for so much.

gericsb · Mar 15, 2006

I can't tell if this encouraging or depressing!??! LOL!

I have a lot of one-word dictionary hyphenated .coms that I cant sell for peanuts! (Ex: co-captain.com, co-sign, co-author etc etc.) And I see some of these ridiculous domains go for thousands??

I cant figure this industry out.

dgridley · Mar 15, 2006

Nice to see hyphenated domains selling.. I have a number of 'em... sometimes it's the only way to get keyword domains.

a very good point.
sometimes it is good to go mining for names in niche areas undug by others.
the above sales figures don't lie.

Sorry - not trying to depress you :td:

I just kept noticing a constant steady trickle of hyphen domains on sedo - I am not trying to suggest people should go out and start reging them.

I have a few hyphen names that I have had for about a year - I have'nt sold any as of yet - the main reason for starting this thread is to monitor their "potential value".

I know this post goes against the grain for the majority of domainers but I know I would be very happy to get a few sales in this region.

Hopefully the mods won't mind me keeping this thread going with regular updates of hyphen sales ?? Please

And hopefully I will get a few of my own

Good luck all

.

TestCase · Mar 15, 2006

If you keep posting, I'll keep reading!

Have a few of my own hyphenated domains that I'd like to see sell some day.

THANKS for your effort!!!

America First · Mar 15, 2006

How about 2 and 3 letter hyphens, B-S or W-T-F ?? :yell:

Well this is the -paradise we live in, get your restless-legs ready, no more digital-tv,send out those e-mails the dot-planet has been taken over by hyphens. It`s a sad

cyber-state we live in when i cant just type in a word(s) and get what i want, like Brazilian-Transsexuals

(could this be because the other extensions are all out

whatever.... anyway, I have seen this happening from coast to coast from Los-Angeles to New-York and it`s coming your way Europe, look in your european-spas they are the ones in the fashion-tees.
Well Gaz, i guess hypens ARE easy to use when im typing a post, what the hey, maybe i`ll get into this hyphen thing,,,,,
