DomainTools - The most lame and arrogant company currently in business

Bellow is a complain with BBB against DomainTools that I submitted after waiting for almost 3 weeks for a reply from their support service and after being blocked to their service for three times.

Bottom line I had what they now call a "Legacy Account". A legacy account is an account that does not give DomainTools enough money so that they may treat you as a valued costumer. You are in fact more of an annoyance than a costumer.

Most of you should probably be in the same position without knowing since they have change their TOS and type of subscriptions without any feedback whatsoever to their current costumers. Be very careful in that case. Be extremely polite and never contradict them. If possible give them a hug as they are very in need.

What a difference from when Jay was running this business!

------

Me - DomainTools sells a membership to a service that permits domain name WHOIS historical searches. However, when using this service, my access to it was blocked several times because of some bogus and unclear limits to the use of the service. There are no such limits according to the Terms Of Service (ToS). And even if there were, my usage of the service has always been made in a fair way, not using any automated method to retrieve data or make the searches. I have contacted their support requesting clarification of the rules but they simply ignore my requests for information. I am paying a fee monthly to their service so I deserve an explanation for this business practice. The account blocks/access limitation also deters the usage of a service that I paid for.

DomainTools - We in fact provided a reply to you on August 2, 2011. The Legacy access you receive is far greater then the current memebrship options and no where on our site does it state that 'unlimited' look up access would be provided. You failed to wait the account reset times and hose to simply be combative. Per our TOS we reserve the right to terminate service for any reason. We will immediately close your user account and refund the charge. As a Legacy user it was clearly explained exactly to you what limits you have you simply chose to ignore them. We provided solutions for changing proxy IPs and yest you also did not want to that. We have already two refunds to your PayPal accoutn as a courtesy and it will also be banned from use on our site. We will not respond further to this baseless and fraudulent accusation.

Me - With this reply you are in fact showing your true colors. Very, very lame and arrogant.
You have replied to me only after I submitted the complaint. You have ignored my requests for explanations for more than 2 weeks. You were always vague in your responses and did not comply to the ToS whatever way you want to put it. You have not solve my issue in any of the occurrences. I have explained to you that the change of IPs did not work. You decided to ignore my explanation and alerts. The ToS do not tell that there is no limit but do not tell ALSO that there IS a limit. I have been paying for a service and deserve proper attention as a client. It is unfortunate that you do not know what that is and abuse of your unique position on the market to abuse on your service conditions.

DomainTools - We have reserved our right to terminate your account and access to our system per the TOS and consider this matter closed. The money was refunded and information for this person removed. We consider the matter closed.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
All over the world, there are plenty of twats put in charge of dealing with customers that I sometimes wonder whether they were deliberately put there to frustrate customers! Your experience is an example!

I've had their free service for years.
No problems ever.

Sorry to the OP for what he is going through.

Peace,

Sorry for your troubles, but I also have a "legacy account" with DomainTools, and have never experienced any serious issues. Sometimes I might go over my WHOIS checking limit, then just log out, and login again, and everything is back to normal.

On the contrary, I think they provide a great arsenal of free services for domainers. :)

And, BTW, talking about scammers and con-artists, IMHO the BBB is one, using "legalized" extortion to force businesses into joining, and threatening to blacklist them if they don't. :(

Just my 2 cents.

Happy Holidays! :)

maybe I was unlucky but every time I had that problem, logging off and changing IPs did not solve the issue. also, there is no excuse for ignoring a client request for 2 weeks.

yeah, they live on the vision and effort of Jay. not a single innovation since his departure and most of their *free services* you can find in other places.

maybe, but in that case they could simply put a negative feedback on them after their resolution of this case by canceling my account, since DomainTools is not registered with them. I mean, it is the first time that I see someone consider that canceling a service with a client is a form of resolving a problem.

Happy Holidays!

Sorry to hear about the experience.

The couple times I contacted DomainTools, they got back to my quickly and were courteous.
