XR can be X Reality or Extended Reality.

Either way it describes the spectrum just like mixed reality.

Been looking around and shopping for a while now, saw many companies choosing to rebrand to xr or just starting with xr in their names..

Those are only some of my findings that are already developed (there are many more undeveloped by major companies like unity/sony etc..)

Decide for yourself.

I just searched for Samsung VR in the Goo Play store. First hit was the XR app. Second hit was the VR app. XR app was updated in November with 6k reviews. VR app was updated in January with only 47 reviews.

I searched for Samsung VR app in Duck. First two hits are Samsung company links to VR pages. The third hit is the Samsung XR app on GPlay.

I don’t think it changes anything for XR. Whilst i still have doubts on 'XR' as an abbreviation for VR/AR in the long term. Some companies are continuing to use it and there will be more VR/AR start-ups branding around XR 2020.

I still maintain SamsungXR was never anything serious and was a move against Apple to cause confusion, i think everyone can clearly see this now. Hence Samsung filling the trademarks just after Apples iPhone XR announcement and making a website, but nothing in terms of promotion or a product, social media barely even mentioned “Samsung XR” so nothing serious was ever intended to be done with it by Samsung.

As we are at the end of the year and the iPhone XR being discontinued 2-3 months ago, i don’t think its coincidence SamsungXR.com now redirects to SamsungVR.com, iPhone XR is no longer a competitor to future Samsung products.

The SamsungXR logo is in the video demonstrating volumetric capture.

Personally holding volumetricxr and lightfieldxr, among others.

Is there enuser demand for "XR" domains?

@ArielT There aren't many startups yet, as quality hardware isn't in the hands of consumers. The Oculus Quest can't be manufactured fast enough for demand and is backordered until late February. Growth is happening rapidly at over 30% a year, but seems it will take time for the user-base to develop to the point where new software startups are strictly dedicated to XR, at which point should be a major boom, imo.

They just moved the samsungxr sdk to samsungar.com for now and will rebrand samsungvr.com to samsungxr.com soon.

They already rebranded the app

This term is for the future. It's not ready for mainstream. It's used heavily within the development community, but consumers are not ready to take on a term like this yet when VR is only just now hitting mainstream with the quest sales. Im excited for when journalism embraces the term on large networks like CNN. The most crucial to embrace the term would be the likes of Facebook & Microsoft. Qualcomm is all in & they will have tremendous exposure once 5G networks are fully realized. Universities are also embracing the term to attract a larger market of students. So when it comes to sales, there is a clear advantage in an umbrella term, and so will be incentives to brand as such.

Me, based on trademarks and what happened already.
Let's sit and watch :)

Well you said ‘will’ as in you know it’s going to happen, Ie:- you’re in the know.

So you’re not ITK, just making assumptions, using words like ‘will’ without any leads that it’s going to happen is not helpful on an investment forum as it’s promoting false and misleading information, if you don’t know for sure, the words to use is ‘in my opinion’.

Considering Samsung is the #1 smartphone manufacturer in the world, I think we can assume with confidence they will be offering a range of XR devices and services to be continued in perpetuity.

The other top three smartphone manufacturers (Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi) are also all working on XR projects. This is the way things are going. Why is Facebook involved? Because they want to be able to influence and control what they know will be the next computer platform. Adapt or be left behind.

No mate, you are just assuming and misleading everyone.
This whole thread is a junkyard promoting XR names with no real thing behind it.
Shame on you!

Don't fight over stupid stuff, this domaining business is like gambling...even if you have some mediocre domain you will be surprised one day with an offer so don't take it like it is an exact science because it's not unless you have premium domains usually one word in king.

Happy new year!
