ahhh my bad! it's Alibaba! you are right! lol
is worthless for several reasons IMO:
1. Chinese buyers do not like IDNs.
2. .在线 is not a popular extension in China and likely will never be.
3. Mixing characters is not the best thing either.
4. There are better IDN domains available for hand registration, what is the point of keeping this one?
Loss is not the renewal fee but the time/energy that is wasted chasing lottery tickets.
no time/energy wasted my friend, just renewal fees since -at the time- I tried to buy as many iot[dot]something as possible. That was the only one I managed to buy though lol.
Thank you all for the great answers. There is some very good info being posted in the thread which has greatly helped the way I see dot idns and ngtlds in general.
I wanted to add. Remember when China ate up all 3L,2L,4L,3N,2N,1N,4N.
That was because China created the demand. And then the west followed suit.
Remember when no domainer ever thought such domains with no meaning had value?
I think all we need is one big sale of a
.China idn and the rest would be an avalanche .
Also think that whoever owns the .cn version will want the idn.idn version
Idn.idn is best since no need to switch keyboards on mobile or PC just to enter it in the address bar.
one big sale will not change the lack of demand. Perhaps it would drive up speculative activity but not end-user demand. Problem is as in all other newly created extensions, lack of development. Without sufficient development an extension can not take off. As long as there is no interest in developing it I don't see that market changing.
They will have a .com like the rest of the world. .com is king in China
I think I've seen one or two developed sites with .China idn extension but more like these domains were redirected.
I guess some outbound hustle will be need on these.
I'd reach out to any Chinese registrar. How much would they pay?
I'd reach out to any media company? How much would they pay.
If I sell for big and I announce that it sold for big ? Could this spark something?
For example if I sold
Media.china for 1 million cny and secretly gave the rest? The news of the sale will obviously increase the value of the rest of the .China I give them for free.
Whoever started the chinese short domains crazy probably did this.
Sold 3N and 3L .coms with the plan to announce the sale of one 3N and or 3L .com for millions. And the rest is history.
Whoever started this was a total genius!
They may be offering .中国 on 4.cn but they are hardly buying, there is little or no market for idn.中国 or idn.cn.
Small market for low number .中国. The market is for number .cn,pinyin .cn, some good ascii.cn but usually short and/or descriptive.
Yen is Japanese, Yuan/RMB is Chinese, often written ¥ and CN¥ respectively to distinguish the two.
Separate names with a comma.
