I have just released Bulk Lookup which is a Windows app to bulk lookup domains.

You can lookup all dictionary words, all LLLL words, and more.

It reads from word list files, and comes with a number of pre-made word lists, plus you can use your own lists.

It reports if the domain is registered or available for registration and outputs to screen and writes to log files.

Any questions, just let me know!

You don't have to use a proxy but you can use one if you want, such as a VPN. There's no restriction on .com queries (and various others, .net comes to mind).

Some WHOIS servers will block you if you make too many queries, or make queries too quickly. Sometimes they only block you for a minute, sometimes longer. Every one is different and they can change their policy at any time. Most are alright, and there's no restrictions with .com which is what I imagine most people will use the app for.

I have made a setting in the app to introduce a delay between lookups, which slows down the rate you are making queries. The .uk server for example, will block queries if you make more than one a second, but setting a delay of one second gets around that.

There's only so much you can do when you are working with public servers whose policies can change at any time (in practice they rarely change).

The bans only apply to the WHOIS servers. I've never had a ban from a DNS server. The app makes a DNS query first, then if the name isn't registered it makes a WHOIS query, so even if a WHOIS server has blocked you, you can still make the DNS queries. A DNS query will show if the name is registered but can't say for certain if a name isn't registered (hence the need for the WHOIS query) but there could still be good value in just determining if names are registered.

Cheers,

Charles
