info and biz have already taken a hit. their numbers have constantly been decreasing for a while. it will probably get worse with the new gtlds. org will be fine, net might dip slightly.

Net and org are gonna be around for a long time. They are way too heavily developed and still desired by end users to lose value anytime soon.

I feel .info makes way more sense than 90% of the new gtlds to use as an extension but as Jasonn pointed out its losing interest recently. Hope that turns around.

.Biz I never liked much so I wont take a guess on its life expectancy.

So all in all, I believe the new gTLD's are doing us old .com/net/org/info holders a favor. Who knows for sure any of us could be wrong but I'm definitely willing to bet my (minimal by comparison) .net and .org renewal fees against any future extensions.

Any update on this? What about .biz?

.ORG will not be replaced. I don't think .net will die, but it is not as secure in imo . IMO No one wants to build their company on a .net including the people supporting .net. All startups i see so far have choosen .com or a new extention like .io etc...Maybe .io will be the new .net??? I think .net has become a sidechick domain. It can be used but no one really wants to marry to it. Only the premium .nets like one words and lll's seem to exchange hands and even then seems to be mostly for flipping. .Info is surprisingly loosing some traction. That's worrisome because its not like it's expensive.

If you have a strong keyword with a BIZ. Keep it.

If you have semi-strong 2 word .BIZ, drop it like it's hot.

.BIZ are not doing good on the aftermarket. At all.

Apart from this, I totally agree with Jasonn (see above).

Good. Sell me all your biz/info/net names if you guys really think they are dying and replaceable with new gTLDs. PM me your list :)

They will not die, even the strange extensions like .ooo still have users

correct....all end users have their own love of extension whether .com .net .io .to .ooo..
main thing is how they marketed there website or popularized it....

Been there, done that. You had no interest in a premium LLL.biz, as I recall.

Will .net/.org/.info/.biz die and replaced by new gTLDs?

Hi to me this is 3 questions about them surviving:

1) Will existing sites on these extensions carry on or get a new extension?

2) Will domainers keep registering them in the hope of selling for a profit?

3) Will they have an aftermarket?

My guess is I don't see most .org users wanting to change, or .info, but .net and .biz yes I can see sites would like a better name.

I don't see net org or info dying in terms of existing sites abandoning them, but I do expect the number of registrations to fall as domainers exit and leave most registrations to end-users.

In terms of aftermarket, they may all die.

No, new ext. are too long

abc.plumbing

don't even look like domains

I personally would rather go with .io, .ws or even .im than 4+ character TLD...

I would rather have a .Net than any nTLD but the .Net resale market has taken a hit since the new TLDs were launched. Small businesses and developers continue to use them and they aren't going to just drop their website that they have spent considerable development resources on. I continue to sell some .Nets for low $XXX but no more. So if .Net keywords with high search volume are selling for low $XXX, how much is a typical new TLD really worth in the aftermarket? Keep in mind .Net has been around for thirty years while new TLDs have just been launched. nTLDs are not going to gain immediate mass market acceptance by end users who generally haven't even heard of them and still are reluctant to pay more than reg fee even for a .COM.

This is not the optimal way to use the new niched gTLDs. The one that will sell (and are selling) on the aftermarket are more like:

Crossfit .training

While .Info has far more history and sounds better than many of the new TLDs, I have to admit in nearly ten years of domaining I have NEVER sold a .INFO (admittedly I never owned hundreds of .Infos but I have had dozens). So why would I invest in a new TLD when extensions with more history still have difficulty selling in the aftermarket?

I have never sold a .INFO either (as far as I remember), but I've sold about 30 new gTLDs. Does it mean that they are better? No... It's up to the keyword (and often the combination with the extension too).

.info has a long history of low sales. So, I wouldn't say it took a major dip due to gTLDs. .org has been a relatively stable TLD, and will remain that way. As for .biz, it had been failing before the new gTLDs came out. It's downfall would have been predicted.

In my opinion, .net and .com are the strongest TLDs in the market. With so much development into them, gTLDs wouldn't be able to compete anytime soon.

Overall, I'd say gTLDs don't have a major affect on the major TLDs so far. I guess, you could say .biz will be replaced, but as I stated before, the .biz fall was definitely expected.
