Mechanical.com is currently for sale on GoDaddy Auctions with less than an hour left and bids over $100k USD we look into what makes this domain name so valuable. GoDaddy auctions is typically a wholesale priced domain market so this name would be worth even more in the retail market.

@Domain Academy

It's a great domain, but let's watch for a rollback.

Brad
Also registered at Tucows Brad I think they got a few extra days to renew. Headquarters.com owned the name, look to still be around.

Who knew there was a Domain Academy account/rep here?!

It was renewed. It still baffles me how godaddy gets away with auctioning domains they dont own.

It's a pretty sweet setup for the registrar.

You know, someone had the foresight to register a domain 25+ years ago.

They pay yearly to renew it. Then maybe something happens. Someone dies.

Over time that domain became very valuable.

The registrar swoops in and gets to just pocket the money.

They avoid the ICANN intended life cycle by selling it as an expired domain, and not letting it actually drop.

It's kind of ridiculous when you think about it.

Believe it or not, they even make a video to boost its value even more.

Many of these domains were registered before GoDaddy even existed.

For example Mechanical.com (1995) was registered 4 years before GoDaddy.com (1999).

It's impressive to make such a huge amount of money for doing nothing with the original registration.

Even more impressive, the domain is not even registered with GoDaddy.

So, they are getting cuts from old registrations not even registered with their registrar.

It was renewed.
These days, “renewals after auctions end” only seem to happen with domains at their partner registrars.

GoDaddy should set each auction’s end date to be 1 second (or more) after each partner registrar’s final renewal time for registrants so that renewals cannot happen after the auction ends.

That’d probably be a headache to do with each partner registrar’s policies being different, but it’s certainly not insurmountable and would make buyers much happier.

Fingers crossed. 🤞 Cc @Paul Nicks

Even crazier the domain academy thinks its a great idea to make a video on why its valuable when it just got ripped away from the top bidder. Our system works!!!.... sometimes. 50/50. eh who knows. What they are doing should be against icann regulations. Literally every other expired domain auction in existence does not operate this way. I cant even describe how many domains were renewed after "winning" the bid. When I bid I know theres a huge chance that we didnt "win" that domain.

It's still up on NB

I don't think namebio is equipped to deal with all the GoDaddy expired auction rollbacks due to renewals..

It's a business/design choice. At some point, NameBio has shifted from reporting only verified, audited sales to relying more on external data sources. This change can sometimes result in inaccurate information and confusion.

Whoever owns it should list it at 100K to see what happens.

The truth is, from the perspective of researching current trends and prices—one of the main benefits of NB—it doesn’t make much of a difference if it were reversed. Ultimately, we see how domainers reacted to the auction, and priced the domain.

Where have you seen it has been renewed?

Whois data shows at this time that the domain has not yet been renewed.

Whoxy.com shows a oct 2025 expire date and instead of a GoDaddy lander page it's now back to tucows.

Whoxy.com is showing Registry expiry date, not Registrar (Tucows) expiry date.

Every domain after expiring, is added temporarily and automatically 1 year at the registry level, but it doesn't mean it's renewed.

You have to go directly to the Tucows whois to check their domain expiration dates.

There you can see the expiration date of this domain is still 2024-12-09. So it still hasn't been renewed.

Godaddy will transfer and renew it in a few days, if the owner doesn't renew it in this time.

Now yes, it seems that the domain has been renewed at Tucows at this point and is pointing now to SEDOPARKING.COM DNS

Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2025-12-09 T 05:00:00
