Hi.

Had seen a website (can't find the website anymore), which registered domain names like this:

Example:
abc.com
abc1.com
abc2.com

Why they've registered these domain names with numbers?

What is the purpose?

What are the advantages?
What are the disadvantages?

What must I search on the internet to find some information about this?

Thanks.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I don't know the exact answer to this, but brand protection feels like a reason. If your company is "ABC", you may reg ABC1, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9...

That said, that seems weak. Strengthening your brand you'd be on a better course securing the NET, ORG, CO, US, IO, XYZ...assuming you already have your COM. IMO

They are generally either brand protection or "settling" domains AKA it is highly unlikely it would be any end users first choice, so they just settled for a worse domain because that is what was available.
