discuss Why are people bidding on these names?

So I was looking at GoDaddy auctions just now and a bunch of names that seem to make no sense have a few bids and are around $30+.

I would speculate these are all Chinese based bidders, but even when searching Google and using the translate with Pinyin enabled returned nothing.

Some of these names have been regged for 14 years so who knows? The first number is the number of bids. The number to the far right if there is one, that would be GoDaddy’s appraisal.

Hopefully someone like @Kassey Lee can weigh in as these look very odd.

I checked one at random (dxqgj.com) and found that it used to be a legit business (https://web.archive.org/web/20151011150720/http://dxqgj.com/)

Maybe the buyers are after residual traffic or maybe the name is brandable in Chinese?

Good point and I thought about traffic but most showing no traffic and nothing above 37.

Good find! The brand seems to be 庆东 (Qing Dong) so QingDong.com would be the perfect match. I could not even figure out how they came up with the domain DXQGJ.com. Even if they include the province name (popular convention), 山东省庆东 (Shan Dong Sheng Qing Dong) gives SDSQD.com instead.

To be honest, when it comes to long acronyms (beyond 4), I am lost. Speculation may be the answer. Even to these days, I do not understand the idea of Chips and how they can be practically used in corporate China.

These domains also "smell" like CJ (commission junction) tracking domains. At least some... So, they may have little traffic (generated by CJ publishers who never updated their links)
