Just wondering. Which type of websites generate the most adsense revenue based on your experience?
Forums, directories, blogs, portals, myspace, classified ads, dating sites, tutorials, article websites, etc..???

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Good question I would also like to know this. I guess it depends on the keywords so the question should also be which keywords generate the most revenue per click

Article websites with high paying keywords would probably pay the most. However, that same article website with low paying keywords could make next to nothing.

Tie in question: Do static article websites tend to get a lower ppc versus sites that have dynamic content? I'm trying to figure why I get one click on a site I change regularly that pays $3 and 6 clicks on another article site that pay $1.50 cumulatively - both with generally similar keywords.

i just learned my site has a couple "gem clicks" that pay out lots of money... hopefully some people will get around to clicking on those ;)

most of mine are mainly lower than 50 cents maximum bid. :(

Oh well.

Content is the main key to $$$

The more content you will have on your site / pages the more keywords will be involved so just add more / dozens of content and see your $$$ grow.

go for directories and blogs and if you put good content then you get a good $$
mainly depends upon visitor location and content

I tried the above Overture link:
http://uv.bidtool.overture.com/d/search/tools/bidtool/
but it didn't work.

However, after going through a proxy, it works. Anyone know why?

So I called Overture's phone as shown by whois to find out why. I got a recording saying the number is no longer in service. Tried again but got the same recording.

It's interesting that Overture.Com would use a bad number on its whois. I thought that's a violation of ICANN rules.

i personally think that the informational sites do well. not the cookie-cutter sites, but custom content-filled sites.... this is just from my experience from the different types of sites i have run

Simple - sites with traffic. You can have a great paying keyword but if it gets 30 visitors a month it's not going to make very much. If you get 300000 with even a decent to low paying keyword you will do much better.

Traffic, traffic, traffic.

there are 1 million mesothelioma sites and a handful of advertisers for it. they are way overkilled. plus, i'm sure you'll be smartpriced to shit.

stay away from mesothelioma it's a waste of time.

My highest adsense revenue sites are my highest traffic sites.
My highest click-through ratio is on sites with little content (parked pages)
My highest per click adsense revenue comes from the sites with highest paying keywords.

Conclusion: If you can get lots of traffic on a site with lousy content that is optimized for high paying keywords your site will do great???

Forums - Worst CTR ever.
directories - If you have traffic, and blend the ads well with links these can do ok.
blogs - bad for adsense, but if you sell ads directly if your blog is a car blog sell ads to car websites etc.
portals - Too broad of a term, some do well.
myspace - Pays horribly, if you have a lot of traffic it ads up.
classified ads - Pretty much a directory, but if its classifieds you can charge for premiums listings.
dating sites - If you can get one going with traffic its best to sell ads direct or go cpm.
tutorials - Never made a site.
article websites - Depending on the articles content this can pay very well.

The biggest thing is traffic. It doesnt matter what other sites do best. If you make a good site, it will get traffic, and will generate revenue.

Hi Guys,

I am planning on doing a forum for people suffering from Depression and Mental Illness, where people can go to and seek advice, make new friends and share their experiences with depression... I am wondering do you think there is much revenue to be made from adsense

Depression pays very well, unfortunately, but i suppose if your site helps people its a good thing. I dont know what adsense pays, but overture pays $3 for "depression" Google would be around there i think, but theres also other phrases that are more precise that or a different category that pay better. But if you get a site going, say you have 100 visits a day, not a hard goal, and you rock out with a 5% ctr... That would bring in 150 clicks, $150-$500 a month I would think. Its so hard to say though.
