Which type of names sell better those with a "hyphen" or those that start with "the"? I am not talking about exact match type of names but names that can be used as company names. I have always wondered which is considered the better of the two. Here are some examples of the type of names below.

thehomeexperts.com
home-experts.com

thepooldoctors.com
pool-doctors.com

thecarspot.com
car-spot.com

theplumbingpros.com
plumbing-pros.com

thefunfactory.com
fun-factory.com

according to namebio there have been more sales with hyphens than the word "the". Personally I prefer "the", especially for your examples.

I personally prefer domains with a "The" for the simple fact that most people may forget the hyphen! It's also easier to say TheDomain.com vs. TheHYPHENDomain.com - Tends to confuse people more, in my opinion.

"the" is better.. it usually sounds better.. it looks better.. it's easier for customers to remember and recall.

Only use a hyphen if you're desperate. Or have extraordinarily amazing words and you are sure to flip it.

the "the" may work with terms and single keywords that are common and well-known

I have noticed a lot of companies lately starting their names with "the" and was very curious between the two. The hyphen looks cleaner and clearer but it does have the disadvantage of having to say "hyphen" every time you tell someone the url. A lot of the big players have names without the "the" already registered for years and asking big money so I think a nice more affordable alternative with either "the" or a hyphen would be a good play.

I would love to hear more thoughts on the investment aspect of these type of names.

"The" works extremely well with some things, such as TheCannabis.Club, etc.

I live in South Florida where temperatures get well into the 90s in the spring and summer months and there are also heavy downpours at times May through October. It does rain some December to March but not much.

Which car is better - one that neither has air conditioning nor windshield wipers or one that doesn't have wheels? (assume no spending on repairs / upgrades)

Well, I guess six months out of the year the one without AC and windshield wipers may get you from point A to B without too much trouble.

However, personally I believe you should consider other options. Why? Because people don't want to pay money for inferior-quality domains when they can make up a reg-fee quality domain themselves. It also costs just as much to renew a low-quality domain (traditional TLDs) as it does to renew a quality domain.

I agree when someone tells me the name I will definitely forget to add the hyphen but if it begins with the I will have a higher tendency to remember. Of course the best type of domain to get will be the premium no hyphen or the =-D but this you already knew!
