Godaddy Sucks!

Pay 69.99 for someone to never talk to you and send automated messages to the domain owner. Well, guess what, the person never responded. Loss of 69.99 and a worthless appraisal.

Are they any domain brokerages that can acquire domains for you that are good? I don't mean ones that steal your money and send automated messages.

Anyone?

Have you tried typing "domain brokerage" on Google? The top results are pretty much it. Ironically, i don't see Godaddy on the first page. What made you use Godaddy in the first place?

I tried typing it in google. All I could find is

1. Moniker - No upfront fee. Not interested in helping acquire domains under $10,000.

2. GoDaddy - 69.99fee non-refundable, will "help" in any domain acquisition.

3. Sedo - Same as GoDaddy

I've talked to most premium domain brokerages because I am actively selling Links.com. I have a fairly good idea about the operations of most of them and can give you some advice. Are you looking to purchase a premium domain that requires an intermediary broker? There are also lots of sites that feature excellent domain names. I can provide you with some links if you haven't found them in your searches.

I haven't tried it, but there exists Afternic Agent (http://www.afternic.com/uoffer.php)

Hope it helps,
gct

$69.00 One-Time Fee*
Afternic Agent also includes:
Free Domain Appraisal
Free Domain Escrow Service

Same scam as GoDaddy and Sedo. They charge 69$ and if they don't acquire it you are left with -69$ and a worthless appraisal.

Hi

why do you think you need a broker to acquire good domain names?

Because alot of domainers won't respond to your e-mails. People with experience know how to get a hold of them.

most domainers won't respond because the offers are probably low-ball bids.

and a broker won't get a response either, if they offer same amount.

money talks,and bullshizz-it walks

tell me what names you made offers on and for how much, where the owner did not respond to your inquiry.

you can pay me half what you paid GD and i promise i won't send you any automated messages or replies.

There are countless domain buying brokers... Rob Sequin comes to mind. Most, however, won't deal in names below a certain value, and I doubt anyone worthwhile would be interested in doing spending time and effort for under a few 100 dollars at least.

Somebody like GoDaddy is simply going to send an annoying email to the domain owner, as you found out. They are not experienced brokers, and they don't have connections. Brokers with connections will want more obviously.

If a domainer is not responding to your email, haver you tried calling? Also, it helps to open with an offer, rather than just "how much?" Many domainers ignore lowball offers and requests for a price.

Also, have you searched for the domain using quotes? (For example "abcde.com") Doing so often brings up "for sale" listings on sites that are selling the name. If the name is not listed for sale anywhere, there's a good chance the owner is either not selling or is only looking for highly motivated buyers.

That was what i was thinking. Which is really interesting why someone would need a broker to BUY something.

I wouldn't mind paying $69.95 for a smooth talker "broker" to convince Scarlett Johansson to sleep with me for one night. But the economics of the equation doesn't look good if Scarlett is asking for a Ferrari in return, and your broker would have to squeeze it out of your $69.95 ?????

I mean, why would ANYONE give up a property on just smooth talk alone? What would you expect a broker would do for you anyway?

If you're not getting a response, it's either because your offer was too low or they're simply not interested in selling.

Spending money on another broker won't fix the above two problems.

Sounds like you dont have a broker problem, but instead a "Trying to contact a wealthy person to buy their name that they dont want to sell" problem.

I don't think the math will jive to make a buyer broker worthwhile at $1000. You have to pay the broker's commission (a good one will have a minimum) and that won't leave much for the seller.

Possible reasons:
  • want to remain anonymous, especially when you are the most obvious end user for the domain
  • language barrier
  • lack of negotiation skills

If a domain broker approaches me, it already gives me the impression that this guy's client can pay moolah. I think being anonymous is easy. After all, you can change your whois info to your real one once the domain has been transferred.

Possible reasons: lack of negotiation skills
Perhaps before you pay 69.95, you can ask explicitly what kind of activities the broker will do for you. Maybe you can ask that you be provided with the broker's negotiation transcripts (although i doubt they're authentic). A broker who cannot give you these, is probably just going to run away with your non-refundable flat fee.

up to $1000 usd

i'd charge a min. of 10% > 15% of that, which only leaves $850 > $900 to purchase.

possible good category names in that range:

LLN.com/NNL.com
some NNN/LLL.org
some NNN/LLL.net
one word .us
one word .net
a few decent two word .com

some generic typo's in .com or tm typo with traffic and revenue

multiword .com w/good gkw cpc

though your budget is limited, you can pick up some decent investment grade names within your range.

depends on your goals, plans, etc.
