Consider this scenario. You have say, $100 (example only), and there's a nice good name that costs $100 you'd like to buy, but it's not earning anything.

But you also know of a domain for sale that earns something like say, $8 a month, but also for sale for $100.

Say for example that latter name is not really good. Yet, because it used to be a site or just a name or typo popular soap opera or something (that you can buy at auction or a drop catcher), it gets that bit of traffic and income.

Based purely on that (without considering backlinks, OVT, business or purchasing goals, etc.), Which one would you get and why?

I would calcuate the purchase decision based on total life time profit potential for both domains. The not really good domain will decrease in value with time. The good domain even though it has no income will likely increase in value. So in a future point in time the good one will win.

Nice point...

What if, for example, if you were to choose between a one worder like domain.com (again just an example) and a site with a so-so name but already earning something that would earn as much as that domain.com cost in a year or so... would you still go for the name?
