looking for opinions on this subject.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Best Regards,

20 years of reg @ $120. Would it be worth it? Not looking to do it yet - I am just wondering what people think.

The bubble sort of burst with LLLL's, but we did see a great increase in value for that short while. In order for LLLLL to have value, we'll have to see LLLL go out again imo. In 20 years anything could happen. Maybe they'll be a new internet?

If everything stays the same and we see LLLL buyouts and subsequent LLLLL (there are a lot of these puppies) buyouts, I think you could see a descent return on that $120 for quality LLLLL's.

There will be no more domain names in 20 years.

it depends what exactly the domain is. money.com is technically an LLLLL.com but obviously can't be compared to something like TYHJK.com

i dont see most of them being worth much than their worth now. as it is i think the value of many LLLL's are going down as everyone is dropping the bad ones to cut costs on renewals.

lower-end LLLs aren't going to expire, but i dont see a run-up in their value either. so i dont think you can expect most LLLLLs to go anywhere if LLLL/LLLs arent

With LLLL.coms, most of the money is in the cream of the crop (eg. pronounceables) and I see it being the same way with LLLLL.coms.

It's very hard to make 20 year predictions (eg. how many people even had internet access 20 years ago?), however I do think we'll see the best LLLLL.coms selling for significantly more than they are today. Most of the LLLLL.coms which will likely be desired in the future already sell at very significant premiums to ordinary LLLLL.coms ($0 - regfee) -- there's no shortage of LLLLL.coms already selling in the $XXX-$XXXX range.

They will be worthless. In 20 years the domain name system will be entirely obsolete.

I think the really good sounding, brandable and also generic LLLLL.coms will be really valuable by then. But since there are very little 5-letter abbreviations (as opposed to 4, which adds even more value to the LLLL.com) I think many domainers then will think that owning one with bad letters way overrated.

I'm guessing the value will be up as well because most if not all by then will be in the hands of resellers.

Just my opinion. ;)

.com cannot sustain 20 years of continued development. We will see other TLD's come in and significantly water it down. Besides, pronounceable 5 chars are just a brand. You may as well sell them a day after registration rather than wait 20 years.

I do not agree with those saying that domains will be dead in 20 years. That would require trashing the entire internet and starting over with a new technology. It is more likely that new technologies will be merged into the existing internet. Domains aren't going anywhere.

Internet usage is still only 20% world wide. There is no sweeping change coming anytime soon.

There are 11.8M LLLLL.com, like Reece said the value is for the cream of the crop.

How can we even make predictions about any name type in 20 years. Best thing to do is just to make smart decisions. We cannot even predict what reg fee would be for domains, let alone aftermarket value.

The technology will, as it always has, grow and change at an ever increasing speed. In 20 years the internet will be nothing like it is today. Complete infrastructures will be replaced over time. .COM's (.anythings) will be dinosaurs. The more technology advances, the more it is shaped around the way the human mind naturally thinks. When we think "I want a pizza", we don't naturally think "IwantPizza.com". In 20 years computers/internet will know you, and will anticipate what you want and present you with the very options you are interested in at that moment.

I think its going to be like mentioned above in that LLLLL.com's well have value based on their keyword relevancy not just because they are the last of the 5 lettered domains. You can see more and more domain investors are buying keyword rich domains rather than just names that make not sense. This, i think, will be an increasing trend for years to come.

LLLLL will be worthless in 20 years - just like how they're worthless now

unless, of course, they're words - like 'larry'

I am also of the belief that they'll be worthless. We may not invent flying cars so easily, but a different type of interface that is more natural than typing something(dot)com doesn't seem at all far fetched. I expect with the advent of more visual and physical oriented computer interfaces a new method of navigation will have to become standard.

Perhaps a similar answer to this question:
