I am hoping to get some help or feedback here.
I was just strolling along on FB, And noticed an ad of a domain that I own up for sale!
It has almost 8 million likes.. I clicked on it, and it brought me to someone's auction in eBay for a completely different domain. But it's advertised as my domain name, with a logo and everything.
Therefore, these people are using my domain to lure others to theirs. I noticed they have gotten over 24 offers on their domain, and probably from luring people in from my domain name. I don't know who these people are, and didn't buy the domain from them.
It shows at the top of their auction on ebay, that the domain I own, that they advertised, is no longer available, and sold for (what I paid for it, which was really cheap)
Although I appreciate the exposure, and the likes on my name, I don't want the general public knowing what I paid for it, as it may affect my sales.
I think it's a great domain, and would definitely NOT sell it for anything near what I paid for it. It's a diamond in the ruff to me..

I have never heard of this happening. Is this a normal thing that people to do?
Anyhow, What can I do about this?

Also, Any thoughts from anyone on this matter, as to how you would feel if someone did this, would also be appreciated.

8 million likes??

Anyway, did you try reporting to Facebook and eBay?

Yes, it was something like 7,700,000 likes..
No I didn't report it to either one. I wouldn't even know where to start...

The whole thing sounds odd... maybe the previous owners and they don't know that they don't even own it anymore.

It's hard to say w/o knowing the name.

I purchased it from the previous owner a couple of months ago, and it was a completely different username when I clicked on it, than who I bought if from.
Also brings me to a completely different domain up for offer in ebay.

Also, what good would knowing the name do? I don't understand...

Research. Can't help w/ a problem if you don't know where to start. Best of luck.

I am starting to think that maybe the person I purchased it from was advertising on FB...Didn't take it down, and now is redirecting to another domain since that auction has closed..And is still paying for his FB Clicks... What a moron!

Also I just left feedback on FB ads, and explained I was trying to report something that I owned that someone else was advertising, so hopefully I will hear something back. Other than that, I wouldn't know how to contact them.

Okay, now this is getting really strange...I just was in my FB again and saw a different domain I own being advertised with around the same amount of likes, yet to a different user than before. Perhaps it's taking my whois info and using it? IDK...But it shows the same thing..What the domain is, what I paid for it, that it's not available, and "here is a similar domain"...So IDK if only I can see my own domains being advertised in there from ebay or ??? Am hoping that's the case! Has Anyone else noticed this with their domains being advertised in FB they purchased on ebay?

Sounds like eBay doing some remarketing / retargeting? You made the purchase on ebay, a remarketing campaign could be using your previous activity details to dynamically construct an ad to drive you back in hopes that you will purchase more. The 8 million likes would be for eBay, not an individual user or listing.

A more common example of remarketing is when you visit a site and start seeing ads for the site you visited being shown when you visit other sites (Facebook, sites running Adsense, etc.)

If that's what it is, you're the only one who would see your domain purchase details, they wouldn't be shown to anyone else. Others may see something they bought (or bid on, watched or whatever they're using as a trigger.)

There should be an opt out you can set somewhere ... I haven't a clue where.

I hope this is the case. This is a HUGE Relief if it is! I could see how the 1st name might have that many likes cause it's a 1 word .com, but definitely not the other. Thanks so much for this info! I really hope this is the case, in which it seems to be. :)

If you are planning on selling the name and it has 8 million likes, I would run with it, just consider it free advertising for your domain

I mean they cant do anything with it if the name belongs to you anyway

I think enlytend is right. I think it's ebay that has the almost 8 million likes..Not the domains...Also, I don't want people seeing what I paid for them, So I am hoping that enlytend is right anyhow, and I'm the only one that can see ads for my domains. I don't see ads for anyone else's domains except mine...
Those were the main things I was concerned about..That, and the fact that the advertisements for my domains had gotten over 20 offers on kinda crappy domains that I didn't even own. Now I know, well hope that's not the case ...(Pretty sure)...
Don't get me wrong...I'm all for free advertising, but not like that...
