Hello,

Can somebody please tell me what is the best way to try to get a name that is expiring soon?

There is a name I want and its expiring next month. How do I proceed? What are the risks?

If it is a valuable domains (worth over $60), I would recommend you backorder it at all the backorder services: Snapnames, Pool & Namejet.

If it is a domain that's likely to go under the radar, or not too valuable, you should try to catch the expired domain by hand. You'd be surprised with the quality of the drops you can actually catch yourself.

You'll need to arm yourself with a drop order list for that day so you can find out the time the domain will drop. Then just arm yourself with various browsers at registrars that offer "instant checkout" - then go for the kill. Or use "Do It Yourself" drop catcher software.

Many people do whois search to check if the domain is available or not but is not worth.

1- Check out the real backlinks, for example if you make in Google link:thedomain.com, maybe Google shoot 43434 backlinks, you say Great! But before say something... I high recommend visit some backlinks to check if the domain is. As you know Google doesn't update daily the backlinks. To make it easy open FireFox browser --> Edit --> See Source Code, then search the domain (in Firefox Ctrol+F), this process save time! I agree with you there, but you should not waste valuable time trying to research where the drop originated from. That info is only valuable if you're trying to grab a domain in auction or it's in status: "pending restore".

Once it hits "Pending Delete" & drops 5-6 days later, the domain's origin doesn't matter at all & it's a free for all to the catcher.

Whatever you do - do not order the name with NameJet.com.

This is because your bid will be viewable by all other bidders. They will then be free to go for the name - you will have told them!

Bid at the last possible minute on snapnames.com and pool.com around 6.30 PM GMT.
