the following quoted area is a little background on me, if you want to skip to the question, skip it

I'm a successful internet marketer and site owner and name by name, site by site, domain by domain i've amassed a stash of a few hundred domains and some high traffic sites that aren't really mine or in use, meaning perfect for domain parking and the like. i've read a few articles on domains and some people who have gotten rich, but like anything else i can tell that making big money in domains is something a few people do very well, and many many people try to do like them. i'm that guy in the last two industries i've gone into. i'm sure that i'll be that guy in this one after a year of work. but right now i'm the idiot. i'm looking for a little guidance to help me get through the weeds here.

most of the "premium" domains i see for sale in forums or own known marketplaces fall into one of what appear to be about four categories:

1. rediculously overpriced garbage like c23s.info $50,000 or hot-time.cc $2,000 or just stupid nonsense on non .com extensions

i dont even know why people bother to register must of these, but they make up at least 1/3rd of the listings i see

2. really low cost or low quality domains

these aren't a total waste of space, just a waste of my time, im not interested. these make up another 1/3rd

3. medium grade and fairly priced domains

these are interesting to read, but i dont usually want to buy many. they are 25-30% of listings

4. exceptional domains for medium to high to very high prices

these i love to read about. to ponder. to do research and due dilligence on. but man, its reallllly hard to find them. you have to weed through so much garbage and useless crap to get to them.

so can anybody throw me a bone? is there some ballers forum for domainers where the upper 1% sell domains to each other? i really can't be bothered to spend 9 hours looking for 5 reasonable domains to make offers on

any other tips you have as well or links to great articles would be appreciated. also any tips on hard to spot scams. like is people selling domains like yq.com for $100k a scam or is that worth it? any other high dollar scams plz let me know. i'd never fall for any and always check it out before putting any money down, but i dont want to waste a week of my time researching a deal to find out it was just some scammer trying to wind me up.

Why don't you just hang around in High Priced domains section. ;)

You will not see garbage domains in there. And if you do say that there are garbage domains in there then you are directly challenging the competency of the staff member(s) who are taking care of the moderated listings in those sections.

Moreover I can understand your frustration but is earning money that easy?

It has never been and will never be even if you are in domaining or in any other line.

One more thing I would like to add is that the domains we call garbage or think are garbage are not really garbage. Without that domains our premium domains would have been garbage.

ya those are ok but most are what i would refer to as 'medium grade and fairly priced' in the op. they basically trim all of the number 1 and number 2 off. but its 98 number 3.

where do people list names like (i pulled these from thin air)

dedo.com
99.com
musicdownload.com

etc. exceptional domains. where do those get listed? surely there is a market for them and like high priced real estate, they stay on the market for years at a time...so where are they listed???

oh ya and most of those prices are rediculous. 90%+ of those are worth $100 or less. the owner is just hoping some idiots pays $3000 for ronaldhino.info or whatever

There are members here that own names of equal and greater quality to the names you list in your example here. You just have to know the right people ;)

People know I'm a pretty big buyer for bad letter containing LLLL.coms, so I get pms from people asking me to buy their names without even having to find them!

You need to find yourself a niche like that and establish a reputation in it.

The people who get killer deals on any kind of investment are always those who go dig them out of hidden, obscure, hard to find places. If it is listed in an easy to find place you are paying retail.

I WANT THE BEST REPUTATION IN THE WORLD FOR BUYING DICTIONARY WORDS!! SELL THEM ALL TO ME PLZ K TY

but ya, where do i go to find those? do i find them from drop catching or buying? i wont buy a domain unless its worth at least $500, and preferably a lot more. i dont care if i can't sell it for five years, as long as its defitevly going to be worth a fortune. so like if i can buy cucumber.com, im down, stuff like that

If you are going to buy just generic dictionary names you will be broke by tomorrow unless you are some super rich bill gates.

As for buying premium name such as generic dictionary names you might want to check out Live Auctions as stated above. These can get very pricey though but if you got the money go ahead.

Also about having the reputation of buying generic dictionary names that reputation is already owned by a man that pioneered the industry and trust me he is very very very rich.

Good Luck! Hope to see you catch some great Names!

A good plan might be to develop something you know and brand a name. Take the money you have and reg a name that you want in a specific niche and make a site. Then take the rest of that money and put it into marketing the name. Could be very profitable if done right.

i guess i'll want whatever is one or maybe two rungs below that? anybody tell me what that is? like domain retail price $2,000-$50,000 (not $200,000-$3,000,000 like that sick sick sick list above)

CVCV's would be a good place to start if your budget is in that range. Good ones can be had for 3-5k per.

Exactly, a few YEARS ago. The key to domaining is finding something new and fresh. If you can find that then you just made a lot of money. Why do you think there is so much hype around a lot of things like LLLL.coms. The reason is because LLL.coms did really well so everyone want a piece of the next big thing. Which could be LLLL.coms.

All im trying to say is invest wisely. Generic .coms are great, if you can afford them. I would kill to get a hold of a one word generic dictionary .com, but that just isnt reality for me.

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do!

Yep, bebo is a great example :tu:

You can find them in the Fixed Price and Make Offers (sometimes High Priced) forums right here at Namepros.

ya i've done that a bunch of times. thats what im really good at. thats how i have a few bucks to throw around on some domains. i came here to find out if i want to spend $50k or even $200k on some valuable domains that i might hold for a few years then sell for $2.5mm under the right set of circumstances and i get really lucky and i get traffic etc. just a risky investment for me. seems fun. and some ppl are getting rich and blogging about domaining so ya. HERE I AM. GIVE ME YOUR BOBO.COM AND JOJO.COMS AND ZEZE.COMS AND LILI.COMS PLZ K TY MERRY CHRISTMAS

do they have domainer coaches? they do that in poker. the good players charge whatever they make per hour to coach ppl. do the best domainers charge they hourly rate to coach people? pretty sure some people could tell me in 3 hours what i could learn in 2 years on the boards
