I did the same too, I transfered all of my domains to Dynadot and Namesilo, GoDaddy change their policy in order to steal our domains, I don't understand why they don't respect Icann grace period !!
I feel sorry for you @omelet. I would have given up on those three domains as a lost cause, just because of the hassle. But I see you did manage to transfer them away for now, at no extra cost. Somewhere in the diatribe, from those 2 GoDaddy support staff, I thought you were told you could not transfer them away before renewing them first. But at least GoDaddy are following ICANN rules and allowed you to transfer them away. A small mercy Which is why, like you, I don't trust anything these support staff tell you, without double checking the facts.
What I would ask. What actually is the complete life span of .com domains from 1-45 days after expiry. From the current owners position. OK. The last part is clear. from 31-45 days after expiry you don't own the domain anymore (or do you still own it in the whois). But I would like to get a clear understanding from 0-30 days after expiry. The life span of a domain according to GoDaddy, and what they allow or don't allow you to do during each part of those 30 days. Because I got confused from GoDaddy's support staff's responses, when applying them to .com domains.

@omelet the policy on all gTLDs is 30 days auto-renew grace, but the name isn't technically moved to an auctions holding account until it receives a bid. Since .studio names don't go through our expiry auctions at all, they never get moved to the holding account so they can be xferred out until we drop the name at day 42. This explains why you were able to move the name out, and also why the support agent was confused, it's a nuance that is difficult to train 3k+ reps on.

I think you trained your staff to behave like this ways in order to make money.

This time, even to last min, they still told me u could not transfer, or no transfer option. In control panel, I could not request for auth code or unlock names
So it is not just Godaddy staff problem, it’s fully Godaddy problem!! They did not allow customer to request for auth code by themselves, there is no transfer option at all!
I already gave up, I was thinking only renew one name, and pay redemption fee . Then sudden I saw I could request auth code manually. That’s why I could transfer eventually

Select the domain name(s) you want to unlock;
Click Lock, and then select Off;
2. To receive the Auth/EPP code for an expired domain name, you need to:
Log in to your Account Manager;
Next to Domains, click Manage;
In the Domains drop-down menu, select Expired Domains;
Select the domain name(s) you need to get the authorization code for, click Email Authorization, and then click OK. The authorization code will be sent to the admin email address for the domain name.

The thing is Godaddy didn’t allow me to push “unlock” and “ send auth code” button within expired name operational panel they locked that part and I could do nothing . Only option was to pay redemption fee and recover names

Sorry bro, It's worked for me, so just shared. May be they changed the policy. I read somewhere in namepros about godaddy changed policy on transfer out expired names.
As you said, just move out all other domains from them.

Of course we are sorry the agent gave you incorrect information about the transfer but they did give you the article a couple times in the conversation https://ph.godaddy.com/help/transferring-expired-domain-names-5019 that tells you how to transfer an expired domain without paying the renewal fee which is what you did in the end. As someone pointed out you were also incorrect in how ICANN's expiration policy works. I have found it is better to be humble in my life as I am frequently enough incorrect despite the best intentions and try to extend the same grace to others as I hope to get myself. I am glad this worked out ok for you in the end and sorry again that you did not get the information quickly and clearly. The agent was correct that if you wanted to renew the domain late with us there is an additional fee.
Thank you for your attitude. But your still explained for your agent quite bit. As customers, we are not required to have extensive and accurate knowledge; however, we pay you Godaddy money for our services. You need to have the accurate knowledge.
@Joe Styler , you are humble. But your staff and agents not humble. And you can not require customers to be humble and soft. If we are in that case, we lost our money, we got cheated, and we are fully raped.

Your domain meow.studio Expires on 2018-11-07, at 95% of registers after 30 days they require a redemption fee. Dealing with Godaddy for a long time, the transfer out rules after grace expiration is not a common question among the clients. This is more of a domainer loophole, mainly people who have been using the expiration process to get a free pricing quote, or get some free advertising for their domain. So that loophole is closed now.
The rep was pretty patient with you, you weren't asking for a discount, you were looking for a freebie.
There rules are pretty straight forward 30 days into expiry the domain is now in a redemption state, and for that service they have to charge you. It doesn't matter if you have 230 domains there, they make maybe $75 per year off you if they are lucky, minus the service costs of providing lengthy customer support.
I bet you that you need Godaddy, more than they need you, but you will never admit it.
Dynadot, they charge a $10 fee for that 31-40 day renewal period, and after that it would be that top level redemption fee.
I would think you have learned enough at namepros to at least not even waste your time looking for a coupon, and just move them out.
And it is not just because of the accuracy of the knowledge. it is about the attitude and ethics.

They said grace period is 18 days----> this is wrong
They blocked me from transfer and request for auth code----> this is wrong
Long story short, easiest way to solve my problem is to follow rules and let me transfer away. But this is painful, no Godaddy staff nicely serve me in that way.
I know more than them? maybe. I deal with domain everyday, same to them. I know this issues can be solved in my way. But reality is that even I know the truth, I cannot do whatever I feel rightfully. They just block me from behaving reasonablly.

Plus, as a business, they should precious each of customers, consider each of us as valuable member. But I didnt see that from godaddy
You can see they dont me, no problem. I have uniregistry, $8.4/ year to renew com, and I have moved 2000 names to them already. I have namesilo, around 500 over them. I have dynadot, and a few other options
Internet not just have godaddy, domain registries all over there. If godaddy treat me in this sh*tty way, that's because this is their standard to treat small customers like me. If this fundamental services is in so bad quality, how can you expect them to do more ?

I think I would pay $300+ bucks for the redemption fee, as the only choice to keep the names I love- this is fully according to Godaddy agent's information.
However, is that the only way? No. But you staff said no other ways.
Can I save the $300+ redemption fee? Yes, but your staff said must pay to keep the names.
Without my insist, my names could not transferred away.
