I was fortunate to catch him live in San Diego if I recall correctly during his (correction: PURE) tour. His music was much heavier/louder/darker than Cars (for example) but enjoyable show nonetheless. I agree he's cutting edge and has quite the volume of music. One interesting earlier release is "Dance".
The warm-up band was Gwen Mars who had a short-lived career but put on a great show, worth a listen.
A lot of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in this track but still very good in its own right.
pretty sure this was a single. Forgot about this song, I know it got airplay, really dug this one! Takes me back to a really good place.
Gary Numan, from the 2000 album "Pure".
In my 20s and 30s I enjoyed finding bands such as these. Amazing talent that didn't get the recognition deserved. They had a strong following but didn't bend to corporate media.
Zero 7: This World
Active Child: Hanging On
Globus: Black Parade
Globus is an interesting band. They are made up of members from movie soundtrack artists. Their songs sound like music for epic films.

Dr. Hook had so many hits in that period. I was too young at the time to understand all the lyrics, but they were fun and catchy!
