AttorneyAtLaw.mobi, final selling price: $170

Subtract the $150 Sedo commission, and I get a whopping $20. Ugh.

You know, with attorney.com over $20,000, I can't help but think the winner got a fantastic deal on this. I know it wasn't quite equivalent, but come on...

I LOST money registering this one! :'(

My only consolation is that with over 250 people viewing the auction, I got enough people looking at it that I guess that was the market value, and better to find that out now and weed out the weak links in my portfolio, right? (How's that for looking desperately for a silver lining?)

In any case, that's the last time I send a .mobi to auction with anything less than a $250 offer!

This is why I took my names off of sedo... ridiculous fees. Sorry about your sale.

Better luck next time.

yea i wouldnt send a mobi name into sedo auction unless the offer minus the 150 is at least equal to an acceptable amount that i would be willing to take for the name.

Bummer. I feel for you. The Sedo commission is ridiculous. Needs to be changed.

You're probably right though, if between 250 viewers, that's all it got... that's probably the market value. Either that, or the right people still didn't see it. (Which is also possible)

I would think it would have gone for a little more.

Good luck on the next one.

Thanks all for the sympathies -- and yes, capiche, you're right, it may not have been the right 250 people. I did make an attempt to e-mail a number of potentially interested parties that I located on the Web (attorneys, owners of "attorneyatlaw" in other extensions, etc.), but didn't hear back from any so I don't know if I got through or not. Ah well...

I'll just be kicking myself if I see it on the DNJournal chart someday... :(

I pulled all of my names off Sedo 10 days ago after I registered for Afternic ($50) membership fee but I think its more professional and they take 10% of your selling price ($60 Minimum I think) Only downside is that they don't do any adult names (I believe)

Sorry about your loss, but at least you learned early in the game and hopefully so can others.

Is it not best to sell here on the forums unless a reserve of $500 or more?

This is a scam, takes no additional work for Sedo to handle a .MOBI than it does a .com or a .net.

Not to rub it in but I think fee or no fee $170 is low for that name...maybe your approach on other names should be to hold a little or develop some of the names.

I think with the newness of the extension and so many people trying sell...now is not the time to start an auction with a low reserve....but I guess we all make mistakes...

It is just that they are one of the only ones. So they can charge more because they just can. Other than Pool, and AfterNic.

HUuuGE difference between "Attorney" -and- "AttorneyAtLaw" ... and particularly in the context / application of an mobile web (and it also being an undeveloped domain name), IMHO. :gl:
Other than the Sedo fees, good sale in my view! :music:

All the best, and Happy Holidays. :santa:

Definately a big diff between the two names, but none the less it is sad that sedo took all the profit on what would have been a great return on investment.

Oh yes, agreed. :gl:

But it is not "Attorney", too ... ;)

See you soon.

Attorney

I agree with you, what a letdown. I also had registered AttorneyatLaw.in, .co.in, and the other 5 India extensions. I thought I had found a real winner!! I also listed at www.Sedo.com (before auction days).
I never sold a won, and let them all expire.
Like Jeff says above, there is a huge difference between "attorney", and "attorney at law".
Sometimes, we just need to slow down.

agree 100% ...everyone needs to be patient...most peeps havn't even heard of .mobi yet. 1-2 years...then all the later comers will have to buy from us...right now we're just buying from each other.

That is why I never use Sedo. ;)

That's actually been my plan, not to sell anything too soon, but given the opportunity, and with the Attorney.mobi sale so fresh in people's minds, I thought it was worth a shot at recouping some of my investment early.

And Jeff, you're right, it's not Attorney.mobi...but I thought the similarity was promising. And it's also true that I wouldn't have been so disappointed with the sale if it weren't for those fees...

Along those lines, does anyone know if Sedo pays attention to what's written in the domain listing descriptions? As in, if someone were to say something like, "If interested in this domain, contact me via the Whois info." Knowing how vigilant they are with the comments in the offers, I suspect they would be -- but has anyone tried something like that?

Commission dropped to $50!

Well, who knows, maybe this auction was the one that finally showed them what a ripoff it was? Or maybe they read all the critical comments on this thread and others at NamePros. Or maybe I just lucked out...but in any case, I just checked after hearing that the Sedo fees got dropped to $50 this morning, and sure enough, it says I'm getting $120 back now! Cool...I feel quite a bit better now...
:kickass: :bingo: :hearts:

Hey, wait a minute, on a second thought...isn't it only supposed to be 10% if it's parked there, with no minimum? I'll have to look into this...

As I remember, no minimum is charged if you had at least 1 visitor on your parking page.
