What are some possible ways of monetizing a .mobi site?

Aside from Google adsense, what are some ways people are considering monetizing .mobi sites? It seems all the money is made in the buying and selling of .mobi names I was just curious if there were ideas people had.

I have Admob on some of my developed mobi sites. It is similar to Google ads. One thing they do is email you when there is a new advertiser who they might place on your site...which gives you the opportunity to turn them down if you dont like the subject matter of the ad, for instance. You can turn off that feature, so that you wont get the emails, but I have not done that yet. When I first started using the service, I would get a couple of emails a day. Now, I am getting so many that I will soon have to turn off that feature...too many emails. Bottom line is that it seems to be an indicator that there is a lot of demand from advertisers to be on mobile sites. That's my take on it, at least.

Interesting

For the lack of immediate answers for monetizing, the same can be said for a .com site..

As far as overall business goes, for future monetizing (not thinking linear):

I think it is all about outreach and networking..

If you have a good Dot Mobi, you might want to market it with existing businesses to partner..

Anyone had any success with this?

Anyone even trying?

If I got rejected 99 times for 1 interest, isn't that a potentially profitable situation?

Allegedly eflowers.com sold his domain for a sign on bonus and a small percentage lifetime of profits (Perhaps he might have the choice to work with the company)..

This is the ideal situation for your best dot mobis, as long as the registrant is in your name, dream of signing with a full fledged project for a very small percentage and a sign on bonus :) Keep dreaming? Well it depends on the name and the situation.. Ideally I'd like to be earning multiple revenue income streams.. even if it is a little, from several Dot Mobi sources..

If you feel your Dot Mobi names aren't that strong enough namewise to warrant that type of attention in the future, then perhaps grow your traffic with a developed site.. as much as you can by yourself.. then consider joining with partners.. (some business even find success with ugly domain names)

Also consider, if you have the money, aftermarket inquiries TODAY.. as prices will only get higher.. Is it all about outreach emailing people?

As with any website, our $$ expectations should not be immediate (can't wait for the days of type in traffic to have more business leverage) .. time to put up a beta.. and then look to join with a full fledged and funded project?

Since January 1999 I have been beaten up with remarks "where is the money?" I was starving for a good name in the saturated Dot Com market.. thankful for this Dot Mobi!

The way I see it with domains is

Good domains = contacts--->wealth--->cash out later

We've heard the phrase.. it's not what you know (just Google that), it is WHO you know - that is wealth.

So it's all about the contacts and networking.. and it starts HERE.

I am waiting to get to know some of us Dot Mobi pioneers on a more personal level.. so I have set up a platform for it (see signature)..

I was around in the 90's and never made those partnerships to try out even for the Dot Com millionaire dream.. Now I am trying to push for a different handling of the situation and opportunity this time around.. don't think you have to do it alone.. great ideas and leads can be found by sharing more with others.. let's all circulate more.

Kind Regards,

Yelo

Sell Sell Sell

traffic equells revinue...Its that simple. I am going to try and make usefull sites and sell the ads on them my self. I will let you know how it goes.
My biggest problem is the development becouse i can barly use a text editor. On the other hand i have been in sales for 20 years so i figure this is a great way to get into the online ad game.

lets not let google run everything..

Devlop site (MOST IMORTANT OF ALL) and get traffic (Quicker you develop the better you will be) then sell advertisments on your site.

At least thats what I am trying to do, I got 3 .mobi sites brewing up. My first somewhat developed site is www.dunce.mobi the other 2 will follow. But I think if you want to make money other then selling ect.. then Develop now ASAp and build traffic up while its early

Dunce.mobi...For Example this site already got alot of hits in 3 days (thanks to the Namepros community). And I am spreading my name to everyone I know outside the Namepros community..... Once you Develop and can see steady traffic then you can make money......

by the way this is how I build my very simple site www.mobisitegalore.com It is free and I highly encourge you to use it.

Maybe leasing of names to people might be another way of monetizing names and sites, development in either case is important. Most people like what they see but not everyone has the $$ to get the name, leasing might solve this problem-like real estate only virtual!

Excellent ideas everyone. A wonderful community we have here which I am thankful for. Amidsts the naysayers that think we are wasting our dollars. Kudos to those that got in very early. Of course there are quite a few that have made money from the onset by selling the name for a large profit. Many of the really good names that lend themselves to mobile devices will pay off in the future...so patience is key. And as someone suggested, alliances and networking are important as well.

I have to agree with those that have started to develope, by getting started early it is easier to forge ahead in your particular niche. Parking is obviously futile. There ia already some free software to get something going, all you need is a direction and a bit of branding and the sky is the limit.

Looks like the folks in Japan are starting the trend, it may take awhile to
catch up in Europe and the States. Most people (non domainers) have never even heard of .mobi.

And I hope they don't at least for a year, so when they do hear about it there is some content for them to look at. Hopefully, with the way .mobi is rolling this out, and holding out on some of the best names, there will actually be sites when people type in "keyword".mobi.

(Try typing in "keyword" .com and tell me how many parked sites you find, I bet you will be surprised how many there are)

The only thing with admob.com their control panel is so slow, it's painful!!!! I will definetly be looking for another affiliate as soon as one comes along! But it shouldn't be too long before the big boys break out and take over!

If a person has a lot of names it takes a lot of work to import them all for ppc. Are the ppc for a .mobi about the same as for a .com?

I am not into developing other than using templates. Besides Godaddy parking for .mobi who else has a program for parking my .mobi and having it resolve to mobile?.

If you can't get into a Pay Per Click program like AdMob, then selling ad space on your site is definitely the way. It's also not that difficult if you get enough traffic, people will come to you asking for ad space.

WorldRadio, this was a very good post. I think you offered up some intriuging points on utilizing not only your domains, but of the ways to, and the often over looked importance of networking with others. We are at the early stages of this mobi thing, and the opportunities that await us, especially those with nice portfolios, are only limited by what we do or don't do with our names now. VN. :gl:
